Purchased from Microsoft Store, no Automatic Updates and shown Donation Prompts after Update

You still have the Classic version installed. You can simply uninstall it. If you can't figure out which paint.net is which, just uninstall both and then go back to the Microsoft Store app and have it re-install the app.

To add to what Rick said: Geek Uninstaller (free) can help to differentiate on Paint.NET installed through Microsoft Store vs. installed from EXE.

You can also use the regular Start menu. The Store version of the app will have an "App settings" action, while the Classic version will not.

Thank you all very much! The capture below is from the control panel, but the regular app menu didn't tell me anything.  The first one listed has advanced options shown below. The second one doesn't have an Advanced Options but is obviously a lower version even though it was installed later. The Geek App shows the August 10th version to be the App store version.  Unfortunately something in Geek interferes with Gadwin ScreenPrint so no screen capture. So I'll try removing the August 31st version.
