Looking for a specific tutorial about canvas sizes: 16+x20+ default

Recommended Posts

  1. Opened and apparently didn't save great tut written for those of us who are having problems with canvas sizes, specifically the 16.09 x 20.something default.  Do any of you know which one I'm talking about?
  2. Found DPI tut to see how Paint.NET handles DPI vs canvas size, haven't opened it yet.
  3. Went searching for canvas sizing tutorials in here but couldn't find anything, and don't want to go hunting on the 'net kissing frogs.
  4. I read what's been posted in the forum ref default canvas sizing; will create pre-sized templates, but need to know why my 300 DPI 8.5 x 11 reverts to a different size when I copy-paste to a new canvas.

So there you go, what do you recommend I study?  SO glad y'all have my back while I'm clawing my way out of newbiehood.

Time is in the mind of the beholder

A mayfly has 24 hours to learn its way around, fall in love, make babies, and write a will.

So.  How long is an hour to a mayfly?

Yaha!  As I was making a short video to show you the problem, even when using 'paste into new image', I found the solution.  It's all in the DPI.  Since I haven't figured out how to use Clip Champ yet, I'll just tell you. See screen clips below.

  1. I imported an 8.49 x 10.55 template; there are 50 in the current project.
  2. That gives me 181.9 DPI, which for simple B&W text form is fine
  3. I need the text on all the forms to fit into a specific area so I can offer different "skins", so I created a TEXT AREA BOX layer.
  4. When I copy-paste that layer into the single form workspace layer, no matter how I do it, the request is for a change to a larger canvas size.
  5. When I copy-paste that layer into its own canvas, no matter how I do it, the new canvas is 16 x 20.
  6. But, as soon as I change the DPI, my canvas is changed to 8.49 x 10.55.  Now I can copy that outline into a single form layer for each of the 50 templates.

UPLOADED TEMPLATE     ALL-TEMPLATE WORKSPACE   TEXT AREA BOX COPIED INTO ITS OWN CANVAS

TEXT AREA BOX ADJUSTED DPI     ADJUSTED TEXT AREA IMAGE IN FORM WORKSPACE

Was that helpful, Pixey?
