Duplicate the Background layer twice. Call the top layer 'Top' and the middle layer 'Middle'.

Start with the 'Top' layer and choose the Move Selection tool (your circle should still be selected) and grab the top of your circle selection and begin dragging down until the height of the elipse is 350px.

Press Delete.

All that does is delete my top layer. Am I missing something???

EDIT - (sheepishly) nevermind, it pays to read carefully and select the proper command. Duh.

OK, carry on, nothing to see here.

'cept this:

Thanks for another great tutorial! Keep 'em coming.

Yes you do. It's in Effects > Noise.

EDIT: If you don't, you'll need to download Ed Harvey's plugin pack.

The Doctor: There was a goblin, or a trickster, or a warrior... A nameless, terrible thing, soaked in the blood of a billion galaxies. The most feared being in all the cosmos. And nothing could stop it, or hold it, or reason with it. One day it would just drop out of the sky and tear down your world.
Amy: But how did it end up in there?
The Doctor: You know fairy tales. A good wizard tricked it.
River Song: I hate good wizards in fairy tales; they always turn out to be him.

Wonderful tut. Don't know if I can do it "by heart" yet, but I know where to find it. Hope this isn't considered necroposting.

Edit on August 19th: Someone suggested I make a whole set of buttons, so I did. Here it is:
