Ash
That is great!! Post the base image for everyone to see plz Good job! Would love to see more!! As for my method coming out too light, there are many things you can do, Adjust Brightness/Contrast and/or Dup Layer Flip layer and Adjust blending modes (try different ones) and/or Colorize It with darker color (Darker Colot tint/ Color filter) Hope this helps. Keep trying Quote All creations Ash + Paint.NET [ Googlepage | deviantArt | Club PDN | PDN Fan ]

Angelaz
So Ash, when you say post the base image, what do you mean exactly? Like what I started with before I added all the effects & shadows? If so, this is approximately what I started with. If that's not what you wanted, let me know. I'm working on one trying the erode/dilate effect. Will keep you posted. Ha ha. Angelaz
Okay, this one I used erode/dilate, but did a few other steps first. 1. Black canvas. 2. Add noise, intensity 100, color 0. 3. Oil Painting, all setting at lowest possible. (like making a starfield kind of). 4. Then dilate, highest intensity, triangle. 5. Then color tint. I came up with this. Here's the finished product. I'm not entirely happy with the highlights. Oh well, I was in a hurry.

That is what I meant Thanks! You 2nd try was quite nice too. From your post it seems like you didn't do my step3, give it a try And make the "table" of the stone (top part) smaller, like in your 1st try Quote All creations Ash + Paint.NET [ Googlepage | deviantArt | Club PDN | PDN Fan ]

Ash
The main idea is Make a sparkly pattern/texture and have some shapes to it. Not the big Oval shape. the little tiny patterns in side The shapes is what gives the feel of the facets, reflection & refraction of the gems. Keep trying, good luck! AmazeMe
I was going to give this tut a go but the second step talks about Erode/Dilate Now I've searched high and low looking for info regarding this Erode/Dilate step and couldn't find anything. I've also checked all of the plugins new & old and come up empty :?: So my question is where would I find this Erode/Dilate or does it no longer exist or has it been replace by something? Thanks as I sure would like to explore this tut

Possum Roadkill
This is awesome ! Great tut. I did this for the first gem tut, so I think I can move up to this V2 tut. I tried several kinds of gem stones and I wanted to add an opal. So I looked up some photos and figured out how to make one. Thanks Ash, this is really great. OK ! I got through it and it has a completely different look to it. I think each has it's own unique uses. This is a great effect and a great tut that everyone should learn. Very cool Ash, very cool.
