Please read Gem Tut V1 first  MOD note: Link is broken to this Tut.

OK !! I better start Gemstone Version2 now, or if I keep finding new ways, it's gonna be Version3 :P

This tut should help you draw something like the images below. :)

I have made the tut as simple as I can, These took a bit more time.

1

2

3

4

Lets get ready: You will need Erode/Dilate filter

1.Fill black background, Add noise (I=80,C=0)

5

2.Dilate (I=7,S=Tri)

6

3.Dup Layer, Flip ONLY the Top Layer Horizontal, Dilate (I=4,S=Tri), Blend mode=Overlay, Flatten image.

7

4.Colorize it as you like(Curves or Color filter or Color tint) I usually Like to use color tint.

Done!!

You should get something like this.

8

With a bit more layers, blending and adjustments, you can get somethng like this.

9

Please follow Gem Tut V1 for rest of the steps. (Start from 10th image there)

And don't forget to feather wehn needed.

Very nice tut! I love your gems, they just look awesome!

I tried for nearly an hour but just ended up with this:[img...]

Not quite happy with it...=/

How did u get this great glowing shadow? oO

No bad for your 1st try.

Use More blur on the "glowing shadow" and make it darker. :)

Hope this helps.

Thanks all for the comments 8)

yea that would be awesome for the ring tut, cuz when i tried to make the skull ring it didnt turn out so well on the band, all i did cropped out a circle, cuth out a hole in the middle added a line the back to make it look 3D then i just curved it and it kinda looked aweful, when i get back home to my desktop ill get a pic and show you how desperatly we all need that ring tut lol.

p.s. the skull gem turned out awesome by the way =-)

Okay, after monkeying with this tut for most of the evening, I've come up with this.

greengemsmall.jpg

I'm pretty happy with it...didn't use the erode/dilate to make the base image. I found that always turned out too light. Instead I used the gradient/lasso and flip repeatedly method, then tinted it.

Anyway, any suggestions, oh gem master? ;)
