dieg467
Hello, in version 5.0.5 the quality and sharpness of the letter characters decreased. For example, when using the Calibri text font, it looks like Calibri light, it looks very thin and different from how it looks in other applications. Even if I paste into Paint.net an image that contains text, the text letters look very thin and discolored. Instead of black, they look greyish. I upgraded to 5.0.6, but still the same as 5.0.5. I also use a pen for a digital tablet and with the update the line looks finer. I had to increase the thickness of the stroke. Another problem that was added now is that the "Fill" tool instead of filling the interior of a shape with color, fills the entire page. That is, it does not even detect the black edges of a figure. Can I go back to earlier version? I use Paint.net daily, it is one of my favorite applications and I was very happy with it until the update. Thank you so much. Rick Brewster
What zoom level are you at? If you're zoomed out, it will look different than previous versions. Paint.NET now uses gamma correction for the canvas to make sure that what you see on-screen is actually correct. However, it will be different than what you are used to; previously, the image was effectively made darker as you zoomed out, which would also increase its contrast. This is an extremely common issue in all software, and we've all just kind of gotten used to it. The image itself is not different, it's just drawn to the screen more correctly when you are zoomed out. Please give yourself time to get used to the change. There is no rollback. There is the possibility of making gamma correction configurable in Settings if there is enough feedback from users about it, but I'd very strongly prefer not to do that. As for the Paint Bucket tool (it's not called the "Fill" tool 😂 although I sometimes find myself calling it that too), nothing has been changed there. Be sure to check that the tolerance and other settings in the toolbar are set correctly. dieg467
I use a 2150px by 3400px sheet, with a 50% zoom. Regarding the Paint Bucket tool, I've been messing with things in the settings to try to fix the sharpness, so I'm going to see what I have to change to get it working again. Thank you so much. Rick Brewster
If you're increasing the brush width to "compensate" at 50% zoom, you're not making the change that you think you are. When you go back to 100% zoom level, the brush stroke will be much larger than what it was before. Which is almost certainly not what you want. dieg467
Well, like magic, I resized the page, zoomed to 100%, and now everything works as usual. The text font looks perfect, when pasting a text it looks as it should and the fill tool detects the edges and paints the inside of the shape. I'm happy again!! Thank you so much. Solution Rick Brewster Posted May 24 Solution Share Posted May 24 The zoom level will not affect the fill tool (ahem, paint bucket tool 😂). It performs all of its calculations based on the pixels of the image itself, not the gamma-corrected pixels that are drawn to the screen.
