Hi, all

I was afraid of trying this tut a few months ago. Now, I don't know why I was.

The outcome is terrific. Thanks MadJik.

Madjik, great image.

It looks alienistic (this is good because I love science fiction). :) It is also magical (not magic - Madjik all). ;).

Wow, fine job.

Design rating: 10/10 :)

Process rating 3/10 :(

Inspiration rating 10/10 :)

You really nailed it with the design and giving inspiration but in my opinion the process to get thick enough black lines was frustrating. Madjik, please get a newer version of hexagrid and edit your tutorial.

With the version I have the black hexagons don't turn out as thick as yours with the same settings.

Sorry, if I am blunt.

Conclusion

Great job overall, Madjik.

Wow, I love how intricate that is when really it isn't all that complicated. I'll be using this, I'm sure!

Edit: I created the example almost exactly, then flattened it.

Then I duplicated the image, ran the "twist" distortion at 20 and 5 on the top layer and -20 and 5 on the bottom one, then set the blend mode to difference.

I thought that looked awesome.

Truly, it looks awesome.

This was my try. Used david.atwell's idea, with a few other ideas (layer duplication, polar inversion, etc)

Unfortunately, Loaka hasn't been online since september of 2007 and likely won't be back to write a tutorial (probably forgot his/her steps by now)

Try the steps david.atwell used in the post above the one you quoted, then play around with it from there. Maybe flatten, then duplicate layer, polar inversion, and change the layer blend mode. Use color tint to change the color maybe.

4.

Repeat step 3, 4 times, increasing the size by 5, and the brush width by 1.

I did not understand that line correctly.

In step 4 you have to run the Hexagonal Grid plugin four times, each time on a new layer, each time with different settings:

First time: Add a new layer and run Hexagonal Grid with Size = 55 and Brush width = 3

Second time: Add a new layer and run Hexagonal Grid with Size = 60 and Brush width = 4

Third time: Add a new layer and run Hexagonal Grid with Size = 65 and Brush width = 5

Fourth time: Add a new layer and run Hexagonal Grid with Size = 70 and Brush width = 6

Hope that helps :)
