GunnarB Posted February 2, 2023 Posted February 2, 2023 For paint.net.5.0.1.install.x64.exe and paint.net.5.0.1.install.anycpu.web.exe I get an incompatibility error: But these are my windows specs, 64-Bit of course. Any idea? Best, Gunnar
Pixey Posted February 2, 2023 Posted February 2, 2023 Perhaps try to install the portable version and see if it works: https://github.com/paintdotnet/release/releases Also, please read this: How I made Jennifer & Halle in Paint.net My Gallery | My Deviant Art "Rescuing one animal may not change the world, but for that animal their world is changed forever!" anon.
Solution Rick Brewster Posted February 2, 2023 Solution Posted February 2, 2023 The incompatibility error usually comes from using a program or launcher that has not been updated or fixed to work with newer versions of Windows. If you're launching the installer from Windows' built-in File Explorer, it'll work fine, but we've had reports of this type of error from people using various other launchers, shells, or start menu replacements. GunnarB Posted February 17, 2023 Author Posted February 17, 2023 The problem indeed occurred because I started the installer from FreeCommander. 30 years of windows and that is new to me.
BonnieHarrison Posted July 30, 2023 Posted July 30, 2023 I did some digging around and found a solution that worked for me. It turns out that the problem might be related to the version of Windows you have. For paint.net 5.0.1, it requires a minimum of Windows 10 version 1803 (April 2018 Update) or later. If your update is not suitable, then you need to install new encryption keys. Before trying anything else, make sure your Windows 10 is up-to-date. Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and check for updates.

Windows 10 v1809 is the minimum (literally says this in the screenshot at the top, and on the System Requirements page). 22 minutes ago, BonnieHarrison said: If your update is not suitable, then you need to install new encryption keys. That's ... not true. Quote make sure your Windows 10 is up-to-date. Always a good idea. Also, this was already solved. I'm closing this post.
