ipeco85
I was very satisfied with paint dot net, but the update to version 5 failed. I tried to install an earlier version again but again i received an error window. System is protected and checked with bitdefender SW. Don't know what happened. A picture with the errormessages can be found here: https://1drv.ms/u/s!AviSFUmVi0DHhg4XfWbY6-rk0dnX?e=Vg0vAR .. was too stupid to be able to add the picture directly ... Thanks for any solution hints Best Peter
Rick Brewster
This tends to happen with some weird GPU configurations, like old NVIDIA "Optimus" systems, which do things that confuse DirectX. There's a particularly old NVIDIA+Intel combination (2nd generation Core) where it literally tries to create a hardware rendering context (GPU) when you're asking for a software rendering context (CPU). This is usually auto-detected and an appropriate error message is shown, but maybe it's not detecting this situation correctly right now. Here's the instructive error message you would receive: paint.net is unable to start because of a bug in the currently installed NVIDIA GPU driver. To fix this: 1) Open the NVIDIA Control Panel, which you can do by right-clicking on the Desktop and choosing "NVIDIA Control Panel" 2) Navigate to "3D Settings Management" 3) Within the "Global Settings" tab, find "Preferred graphics processor" at the top and make sure it is set to "Auto-select" You can also configure this on a per-application basis by using the "Program Settings" tab instead of "Global Settings" in step 3. Rick Brewster
Yup, I checked, the code that shows this error message needed to be updated to detect a new code path. The fix on your side should be what I already posted.
