Cut and paste into new image

Recommended Posts

Using Paint.net 5.0
How do I selection a portion of and image using either magic wand ot selection laso and paste it into another image?
Example: I want to cut out a picture of a car from a photo amd paste that picture into another image. Simple but it's not in Paint.Net it seems.

Thanks in advance for a simple way to do this.

Copy Merged, oh man, how did I not know of this feature until now? I always flatten the image and copy, then unflatten the image. 😹

So I am not on paint5.0 but I would assume it's the same as 4.X.

I just select part of the image, copy, then go to the next image, and paste.

Just open both images at once in the program. Sometimes I have like 10 different files open. Don't be shy to open multiple.

  • Make your selection
  • Ctrl + C (copy)
  • Activate new image
  • Ctrl + Shift + V (paste in to new layer)

So there is no Ctrl + E to insert into the active image like id Paint Shop Pro?

Hello @JWH and welcome :)

All will be revealed here https://www.getpaint.net/doc/latest/EditMenu.html

Thanks Pixey, I will try to work through this today. I am familiar with many of the functions but the simple Ctrl C from one image and hope over the another and Ctrl E didn't work like in Paint Shop Pro - some of the other replies seem to imply that Ctrl C and then hope over and Ctrl V  replace the Ctrl C and Ctrl E in Photo Shop as it adds another layer though. Thanks

@JWH so if you want to copy something from one image to a new layer, you need first to:

Ctrl + C, then Ctrl + Shift + V = what you copied with then appear in a new layer.

If you want to copy something over to another image in the Layers, just use Ctrl + C, then move to the other image and do Ctrl + V.

Better to add your pasted element in a new layer. This way areas of transparency are retained and do not overwrite the existing layer.
