I should dabble with a plugin and see if I can get all the commands wrapped up in one.

Plugins don't have the ability to do any of those operations.

(September 25th, 2023)  Sorry about any broken images in my posts. I am aware of the issue.

It is inconvenient that here, as in Photoshop, there is no export command without changing the project of the current file. It would be convenient to add such a command so that the convergence is performed in the background through temporary data. It may be possible for the author to implement this without having to completely copy the project into temporary memory.

I do file save as > PNG

then hit Cntrl + Z to undo the flatten,

Then continue working.

Secondary Method:

Cntrl + Shift + F = Flatten

Cntrl + A  (select all)

Cntrl + C (copy)

Paste into new image

Cntlr + Z on original image (undo the flatten)

I learned about Cntrl + Shift + C in this thread, today. 🤣

Yeah, save as + ctrl Z is about the fastest way, but I bet if I get good at muscle memory the other way will work for me.

Have you tried the series of chords marked as the solution above? Recently this was posted:

Ctrl + Shift + C

Ctrl + Alt + V

Ctrl + S

Ctrl + W

  • 8 months later...

The workaround given above gives you a lossless method of saving without altering the PDN. An "automatic" flattening process is bound to leave some users without the layer structure...

A: I saved my 100 layer image as a PNG and closed PDN. Now I want to edit the layers.

B: CoCoNO's auto-save flattened the layers into a composite PNG image for you.

A: So you do I get the layers back?

B: Did you save the master image as a *.PDN?

A: Nope.

B: Your layers are toast. Have a nice day.

To be fair, @CoCoNO and others are asking for an 'Export As' option, separate from Save/Save As, that would allow flattened export to PNG (or other formats), which would remember the last format chosen so that it could be repeated easily at any time without affecting the layered image currently being edited.
