Help with making an area white, from black.

so i have a picture and i want to change a certain part of it from black to white i tried playing around with the contrast and brightness and it gives me this awkward gray-sepia colour. is there anything i could do besides repainting the whole thing

I will edit your title, as we like to have a more descriptive heading.

 

You could also do this:

 

1.  With the Lasso Select you can select the area you want to change to white.

2.  With the Bucket fill you can make that selection white.
