Rick Brewster
Try again. The web server may have just been lagging, but it worked for me just now. Rick Brewster
I just renewed the website's SSL certificate and your computer may be mixing up its cache for this. You can try a few things, 1) First, open up https://www.getpaint.net/updates/v9/manifest.os1000.x64.json in a regular web browser (in other words, just click on that link). If it loads fine and you see a bunch of text (instead of an error), then the website itself is working fine. If you get an error, reload/refresh the page, which is usually enough to tell the browser to reset the cache. 2) If you still can't get the installer to work after doing that, try restarting your computer. Sometimes this is enough to reset the incorrect caching. Rick Brewster
For step 1, you can also try shift clicking on the reload button, or pressing Ctrl+Shift+R. This ensures a cache reset. I'm inclined to think there's something wrong with the way I installed the new SSL certificate. That stuff is super confusing, as my hosting provider doesn't have a nice simple solution like LetsEncrypt. Rick Brewster
I've merged all of these threads together so we have 1 place to discuss and figure this out I just installed a new CA certificate on the websites (getpaint.net and dotpdn.com). Hopefully that's all that's needed, but I'm flying a bit blind here so we'll see. Rick Brewster
There seems to be some pretty bad problems with the website host right now. I've been having intermittent issues for awhile, I think it's just time for a new hosting provider. iSeey
Yeah, I retried and still the same problem (also reinstalled)
Solution Rick Brewster Posted July 6, 2022 Solution Share Posted July 6, 2022 For now everyone can install using the offline installer available here: https://github.com/paintdotnet/release/releases You almost certainly want the "x64" installer unless you're on a 32-bit "x86" system. (It will let you know if you downloaded the wrong one, you can't actually cause any harm.) Rick Brewster
I've migrated getpaint.net and dotpdn.com over to new hosting. The DNS will take "time" to propagate, with the amount of time depending on the local system and the ISP, and everything in-between. Up to 72 hours, so I hear. My phone, via AT&T's LTE network, already has dotpdn.com's new DNS, but my PC does not. getpaint.net was changed over a few hours later so there's more waiting involved. Hopefully this will all just flush out over the next day or two. Rick Brewster
Also, with regards to the downloader sitting there spinning the progress bar for 10 minutes and not letting you cancel it, I'm working on a fix for that as well. That should not have been happening -- at worst it should have responded within 30 seconds. erissimaco
Resolved! you have to exit the antivirus. even if I don't understand why.😳
Rick Brewster
Had nothing to do with antivirus. The website itself was just broken.
