CharlesUK
I know this has been a topic in the past, but still needed. For instance I sometimes have geo tag info on travel images, have copywrite info, photographer info, and for uploading to agencies titles and keywords. Yes, I know other software can handle this, but PaintNet offers much more in the way of editing possibilities. PaintShop with a subscription is totally out of reach for many unless full time organization. Would help if pre-existing info wasn't deleted as a starting point. Rick Brewster
What kind of "support" do you mean? Paint.NET will do its best to preserve all metadata that it understand from any image that you load. Whether that metadata can be saved to a specific type of image depends on that type of image. *.PDN files will preserve everything no matter what, while other formats (JPEG, PNG, etc.) will be dependent on what the file format supports. However, there's no built-in metadata editing in Paint.NET. So are you asking about metadata preservation or editing? CharlesUK
I had entered IPTC info using other software but also had normal EXIF in a JPG file. Saved it with a name change and both were gone in the newly saved file. Yes, would be great to be able to add and edit in PaintNet but at least don't want to lose if saving a JPG file. Rick Brewster
Can you provide an image that has metadata that gets lost? That would enable me to look into this to see if there's something going on and if it can be fixed. Also, make sure you're using the latest version of the app (4.3.11). Older versions may not be as good at preserving metadata. CharlesUK
OK, have made a small test jpg (small as saves on space) has origional meta data and some added IPTC. This was saved with IrfanView.

The forum software stripped the metadata, you should attach the image in a zip file. CharlesUK
OK, trying again with a ziped file. Photo PantNet.zip
Rick Brewster
Like you said, this image has some IPTC metadata encoded into the APP13 section. Paint.NET doesn't currently handle/preserve this kind of metadata, but I'll file a bug to look into it for the 4.4 update. CharlesUK
Great, Thanks. PaintNet seems to offer so much but I and I suspect many others need the IPTC and META data handled in some fashion.
Rick Brewster
@null54 just finished implementing IPTC metadata handling for Paint.NET v5.0. Hooray!
