thebrufo
I'm not really a photo editor. I know my way around paint.net but I don't use it regularly for work or hobby. Lately though, I've been finding myself having to convert png and jpg files to webp. I'd usually use a third party service like CloudConvert but it gets tedious when converting quite a few, and sometimes the file sizes are still way too big. I was wondering if I resized png images to a smaller size and then saved them as .webp through paint.net this would 'really' make it a .webp. I know sometimes just renaming a file extension doesn't actually make it that file type. Would this work? Thanks for the help

It would. The image file size will depend on how effectively the image content can be compressed, and if any file metadata is preserved (e.g. EXIF which may be present in a jpg). For batch conversion you can try Google's command line-based cwebp utility, it can be downloaded from: https://developers.google.com/speed/webp/docs/precompiled It provides more options than Paint.NET, such as removing metadata. 41 minutes ago, thebrufo said: I know sometimes just renaming a file extension doesn't actually make it that file type.
