Rick Brewster
We've been getting a lot of questions and "bug reports" lately that are easily solved by just installing the latest version of the app. If you're about to make a post here in Troubleshooting, and you don't have the latest version of the app, STOP. First, get the latest version! It's very simple for you to do, and it avoids spending a whole bunch of other people's time while we figure out that the real problem is that you haven't installed the latest update. Many bugs are often fixed in newer updates, so it's easier if we're all on the same page. If you're using the Microsoft Store version of the app, rest easy, you've already got the latest version (plus or minus 48 hours, usually). Here's how to make sure you're up-to-date: 1. Open the app 2. Click on "Settings". It's the gear icon at the top right of the main window. 3. Click into the "Updates" section. 4. Make sure "Automatically check for updates when paint.net starts" is checked 5. Click the "Check Now" button Sorry, but this really is non-negotiable -- if you refuse to install the latest version, we will not help you and your post will be closed. If you "can't" or "won't" install the latest version, or you think you're an exception, or you have "opinions" about "updates", then that's just too bad, we need to be respectful of other people's time. If your OS is too old to run the latest version of the app then you need to update your OS. If your computer is too old to run a version of Windows that can run the latest version of Paint.NET then you will need to upgrade your computer. I realize this isn't always an easy thing to do; I've been fairly conservative about the minimum OS requirements, but sometimes they just need to be updated. There is no support for older versions. AT. ALL. No exceptions. The support provided for older versions is literally the newest version of the app. If you are unable to install a newer version, such as if you're on a company-provided PC, then you can use the portable version of the app. See if your bug happens there, and if it still does then you can certainly make a post about it. If the bug doesn't happen then you have solid evidence to go talk to the folks in charge of software installation and updates for your PC. 1 1 The Paint.NET Blog: https://blog.getpaint.net/ Donations are always appreciated! https://www.getpaint.net/donate.html
