xPainter
As the title says - select an image in Windows Explorer, right-click and select "Open with..." - choose Paint.net from the options and it open the program, but jus with a blank canvas, not the selected image. ?? Solution midora Posted November 22, 2021 Solution Share Posted November 22, 2021 Hi @xPainter if you are just getting a blank canvas and no error message then I would expect that there is an issue with an registry entry. Open the registry editor and search for the key PaintDotNet.exe. The subkey PaintDotNet.exe\shell\open\command should show "%1" at the end. If this is not the case then add it. The value of my command key is: "C:\Program Files\paint.net\PaintDotNet.exe" "%1" Be aware there are multiple PaintDotNet.exe keys in the registry. Check all of them. . xPainter
Thanks - but it's edit/command subkey - I don't even have an "open/command" one; but amended the edit one as you suggested and it now works
sflick
Also have this issue and made a bug report here: https://resource.dopus.com/t/open-with-to-load-image-in-paint-net-no-longer-working/39977 The solution is the same but it's only a workaround. Will the paint.net installer get a fix or whatever is causing that wrong entry?

midora
The title is somehow misleading. It talks about 'open with' but people are referencing the edit entry
AndrewDavid
Proper entry to look for
midora
The edit entry is missing "%1" but open should be ok.
otuncelli
I'm curious. What is the registry values (open & edit) for the MS Store version? It has to be different. I know there is paintdotnet: command that can be used to start both Store and Classic.
