You can rest the mouse over the effect in the menu to see its name and file system location. You will see that the duplicates are from different locations, which means you have installed more than 1 copy of them.

Doesn't really explain how to fix it.

If I understand what your problem is, it's that you have folders within the Effects folder that contain copies of the plugins. You've got to either move the folders outside the Effects folder, or move the folders into a folder within the Effects folder (e,g., Effects>NewFolder>OldFolderWithPluginCopies). The 4.3+ version of PDN not only searches for plugins within the Effects folder, but also checks for plugins in subfolders that are one level deep in the Effects folder.

Sorry @MJW You've lost me.

Anyway in the effects folder they are not duplicated, so can't fix it.

I've tried uninstalling and re-installing, that didn't work.

Think I might have to live with it.

Cheers.🙃

Do you have folders within the Effects folder? And if so, do those folders also contain plugin DLLs? If not, I misunderstood your problem. If so, reread my original comment with that in mind.

EDIT: By "Effects folder" I mean the folder (aka directory) on your hard drive that contains the plugin DLLs (for the folder locations, see  Pixey's comment). Check and see if besides DLLs, the Effects folder also contains folders. If it does, check those folders to see if they contain any plugin DLLs.

What do you have in the SHAPES folder?  If the same shapes are in there, as what you show here, then this is why they are duplicated.

Does that mean I need to delete all the shapes outside the folder?

Yes, Shapes have their very own folder, just by themselves 😁

Yes, the screen shot you showed here:

Delete those shapes that are outside of the Shapes Folder.  i.e. from club all the way down to 3D pyramid.

Did you ever find these two:

find-effects-files.png

If you are using the Classic version and,

If you have an Effects folder in both of these places, i.e. paint.net and paint.netApp Files

you will have to delete the duplicates from one of them.

Do not delete DLL files. Those are your plugins. Delete only the files labeled XML document under the column called Type in that screenshot.
You can click on that column to sort by type, so all the XML documents that are your shapes will be in one location. That'll make it easier to remove them.

Nope. @Manc is asking about duplicated plugins

@Pixey has posted the most likely cause of the issue. Twice.
