Apologies upfront about gravedigging, but this seems to be an evergreen problem, and this appears to be the most recent post about it that I could find. At the risk of sounding snarky, toe_head's phrasing sounds like it's saying, "that would be a lot of work just for a feature that many people have wanted for at least 15 years". To be fair, I don't think this should be a plugin, I think it should just be a built-in feature that you access perhaps by holding a modifier key while drawing a shape.
