Paint.NET causes sleep mode to my PC monitor

Recommended Posts

Hi, I bought a new computer - i5 10600, RTX 3070, 16 GB RAM, Windows 10 PRO,  - and I have been experiencing weird issues with Paint.NET since then. When I start the software and the default screen appears, my monitor - GIGABYTE AORUS AD27QD - always goes to sleep mode. After pushing  ENTER to get from the mode to common mode, it goes to sleep mode again. I just cannot use the software anymore.

I have a few questions:

- Have you ever experienced this?

- Could it be the software's issue or my monitor's issue?

- Could Paint.NET harm my monitor?

- Is it possible that a software could harm a hardware?

I would like to know your opinions.

EDIT: I found some error logs in Event Viewer

The program PaintDotNet.exe version 4.214.7601.39231 stopped interacting with Windows and was closed. To see if more information about the problem is available, check the problem history in the Security and Maintenance control panel.

Something is probably wrong with either your GPU, your driver, or ... and this is my bet ... you have some GPU monitoring/overclocking software that has a bug in it.

In order to actually open the app, you can disable hardware acceleration via Run (WinKey + R): paintdotnet:/set:UI/EnableHardwareAcceleration=false

Now that you can (presumably) open the app, open up Settings (gear icon at top right corner), then click into Diagnostics, and then click the "Copy to Clipboard" button, and then paste that here. That will let me see, among other important things, the DLLs that are loaded into the process and there may be something obvious we can point out for you.
