Paint.net keeps crashing without a Crash Log(SOLVED)

Recommended Posts

I've been trying to look for a solution, but I doubt nobody has this problem but me.

I just got the latest Paint.net version (ver 4.2.12 by the time I am posting this), and ever since that I could not work properly in the circumstance of it constantly crashing whenever I:

> Create New Image [Ctrl+N]

> Resize [Ctrl+R]

> Canvas Size [Ctrl+Shift+R]

> Brightness / Contrast [Ctrl+Shift+T]

> Hue & Saturation [Ctrl+Shift+U]

> Levels Adjustments [Ctrl+L]

> Posterize [Ctrl+Shift+P]

> Sepia [Ctrl+Shift+E]

> And everything else in the Effects tab...

I'm not sure if it has something to do with my software / hardware, or anything else. It was working fine before, and I even tried to install previous patches, and it still won't create a new blank image...

Please open Paint.net anew and go to the cog wheel (settings) in the right hand corner, top of the toolbar.  Go to Diagnostics and copy to clipboard and paste the results here.

When you say Paint.NET "crashes"... what EXACTLY happens?  Can you show us a screenshot?  Or, does the Paint.NET window simply close?

Can you share a ShareX screen capture movie of the crash?

I'll assume you've tried rebooting.

Yes, I've rebooted multiple times, and yes Paint.net simply closes. I also tried to screen record the whole process, but the file size is 1.30 MB

If so many things are crashing, I've got to think it's a broken/corrupt installation of .NET Framework itself. I'd try to repair that. Tools like chkdsk and sfc /scannow may also be of use (easy to find info on them with a quick google search).

Currently doing a sfc /scannow

Ok, I manage to screencapture and convert it into a compressed gif, and on this I simply demonstrate the "crash"

Ouch!

Yeah, that's bad.

I think you're on the right track trying to repair your .NET Framework.

For the duration, I did the following:

- I ran the program, finding issues with the Framework, and it told me to do the following steps:

> Re-install the .NET Framework to the latest

> Come back to it if it didn't fix the issue

- After the 2nd step, it scanned / tried to fix the issue again, but it said there was no issue

- I searched online how to repair my framework, and followed the "Turn Windows Features On or Off" method

- After a couple ticking and unticking boxes to the 4.8 Framework (current framework), and a couple of reboots and restarts...

Paint.net still "crashes" when I do the aforementioned tasks

Well, your .NET Framework is definitely broken.  You should contact Microsoft about that.  I'm not sure we can do any more for you here and Paint.NET requires the .NET Framework in order to operate properly.

Alright. I do appreciate you guys for at least trying to help me solve this problem with me, I guess it was just my computer that has the problem. Might result in buying a new one.

Cheers,

JustCalvin

Good Day to all!

Recent updates have been happening on the sidelines, and my application finally worked again for some reasons unknown.

I can finally create a new canvas, adjust my contrast and etc.

It appears to have fixed all on its own.

Cheers,

JustCalvin
