How to thin out lines?

Hey all,

 

I have a low resolution image (it's cursive text) I'm trying to expand and the primary problem I'm facing is that thickness of the brush strokes turns out much too wide. Is there a plugin I can use to thin the lines out?

There are different techniques based on the source image.

 

Can you show us?

 

Or, at least describe better... is it black text on a white background?  Is is black text on a transparent background? etc.

Basically, I'm trying to thin it out so it looks like the letters were written with a thinner brush.

Try Effects > Noise > Median:

 

 

You might need to clean up the spots between the R and o and between R and y...  But, this should get you most of the way there.

 

(I just selected the "Roy" so you could see the difference.)

Although not perfect, using a Paint Bucket tool with the maximum Tolerance of 80 to flood the backgroud area can also achieve the effect of thinning the black area. If the edges of the original letterings are feathered first this method would probably work better.
