Popular Post MJW
Vanishing Trails is similar to pyrochild's classic Trail plugin, but adds perspective. The plugin (Version 2.0, Sept. 12, 2020): Vanishing Trails.zip The Help menu describes the controls: Quote Vanishing Trails produces multiple copies of objects which appear to recede into the distance. (An "object" is a region of non-transparent pixels surrounded by transparency.) Closely spaced copies can also be used to add the appearance of thickness to objects. The controls are: Repetitions: The number of times each object is repeated at increasing depths, including the original object. Distance: The apparent distance between the object copies. (Due to perspective, the copies become closer together in screen-space as they recede into the distance.) Vanishing Point: The location of the vanishing point. When Perspective is set to its default value of 1, this is the actual vanishing point. Decreasing Perspective moves the vanishing point outward along the line through the canvas center and the specified location. Perspective: The rate at which object copies decrease in size with depth. When Perspective is 0, object copies do not decrease in size. Spacing Adjustment: The amount to adjust the spacing between object copies. Increasing this value leaves the position of the first copy and the last copy unchanged, while shifting the other copies toward the first copy, with the nearer copies shifted more. This can be useful to produce an appearance of even spacing between the copies of objects that represent three-dimensional objects. Generally, 0 works well for objects that represent two-dimensional objects which are parallel to the canvas, while 1 works well for objects that represent three-dimensional objects, provided the vanishing point is appropriate. Fade Amount: The amount by which object copies decrease in opacity with depth. The opacity (alpha) of each pixel's final copy is approximately equal to the pixel's original opacity multiplied by one minus this value. Fade Profile (0 for Linear; 1 for Exponential): The type of fade. A value of 0 produces linear fades -- the opacity of the copies decreases by a constant amount. A value of 1 produces exponential fades -- the opacity of the copies decreases by a constant ratio. Trail Transparency Adjustment: The amount to increase the trail transparency. Keep Original Object: Option to keep the original object. If disabled, only the subsequent copies will be kept.. Antialias: Antialiasing preference. Enables and disables antialiasing. Antialias Quality: The number of subsamples per pixel. The number of subsamples is this value squared. The User Interface: Most of the controls are self-explanatory, but the Spacing Adjustment may require some explanation. Consider the left (red) ellipse in this example: When interpreted as an ellipse perpendicular to the viewing direction, the spacing makes sense. However, if it's interpreted as a tilted circle, the circles become crowded together as they recede into the distance. The Spacing Adjustment control allows the spacing to be modified to produce a more pleasing result, as shown in the right (blue) example. As mentioned in the Help menu, 0 is usually best for 2D objects, parallel to the canvas, while 1.0 works best for 3D objects. Here is an example based on my OOTF candlestick entry: 6

A check box to not keep the original object ? Example below, solid main object, not so opaque trail = just keep the transparentish object It should be. I'll take a look at doing that.

(Before I release a new version, I first want to look more closely at the spacing adjustment, which I think I might be able to make more logical.) MJW
I've released a new version, 1.1. The changes are: The addition of a feature requested by @welshblue to optionally eliminate the original object, keeping only the trail. A modification in the Spacing Adjustment that makes the the values more meaningful. Generally 0 should be used for 2D objects parallel to the screen; 1 should be used for 3D objects. (With the vanishing point consistent with the apparent perspective of the object.) Choices other than 0 and 1 are provided for flexibility. The are some minor, and I hope mostly invisible, changes to the Fade and Perspective control functions. I also disabled the Spacing Adjustment control when Perspective is 0 (a parallel projection) since the way it works now, it has no effect. 3

MJW
I'm releasing version 2.0 of Vanishing Trails. It has two enhancements. First, I expanded the range of fade profiles from 0 to 1 to -1 to 2. This isn't just dialing it up to 11 -- 0 is still linear, and 1 is still exponential; the values below 0 and above 1 produce profiles that fade slower initially than linear, and faster initially than exponential. Second, I added a Trail Transparency Adjustment to increase the trail transparency. Previously, when the object copies were very closely spaced, the trail was almost opaque, even with maximum fading. The new control allows the transparency to be decreased. Among other uses, the two controls are useful for producing "zooming" text effects. 2
Djisves
Thank you @MJW. The transparency and spacing adjustments work very well. I used maximum fade in all three examples below:
