Why is it the only tool configuration UI sitting on the Tools window? It makes no sense. * People accidentally click it all the time and are left with 0% or 100%. And then they wonder why the magic wand or paint bucket "doesn't work". This design eliminates both problems. It's just the right thing. Edit: Oh and this also gives you a larger Tolerance slider so you can get all integer values from 0 to 100. Right now in 2.6x the granularity is like every 3rd value is possible or something. Rick Brewster Posted June 8, 2006 Author Share Posted June 8, 2006 Oh Boy...that's pretty.It's growing up. I know I am downloading Alpha 1 (how far away?). Where is "Units:" by the unit selector? What all will be local to the Image? I know the history, zoom, viewing position, layer selection, etc. should be, but what about what could be, like the tool selected, tolerance, anti-aliasing settings, alpha blending settings, primary and secondary color? I'm glad to know that not a substantial amount of the GUI was changed compared to what could have been with a swtich to MDI. I now know why you ducked. I threw enough at you. Units are there (next to ruler button, "Pixels"), the text was just removed. I'm debating whether it has to be there or not (the text label, that is). The toolbar is split in to 3 areas. Top/left are the common actions: open, new, cut, copy, paste, etc. Top/right are view related settings (zoom level, grid, rulers). Bottom area is context-dependent on the active tool. The tool icon is a split button -- basically a button with a drop down. The idea is to have "tool presets" ... you can click the drop down button and access a list of presets that define tool+their configuration. And this way you can also set the default/startup tool and settings. This makes it very quick to switch between some common tool settings, as you can press Alt+T and then whatever hotkey you assigned to a given preset. Thank you, I remember starting a thread about this topic and hoping it would be in v2.6 in some way or form, but I'm glad that it has been added to v3.0. Having a complete range of values really helps a user (like myself) when working with different images. It was even worth sitting through Bauhaus for (they are awful). It actually looks quite good. nice to see MDI in the corner there, will make PDN so much better now. Keep up the good work I only wrote those things above so that those things were written, and so (hopefully) those people who were going to ask those questions maybe now wont. I'm still figuring out if it's feasible to implement another solution, especially because almost everybody is still using a 32-bit OS and have grossly limited virtual addressing space (2GB). Yet another reason to really consider going to 64-bit. I also have a feeling in my gut that the moment it comes out, the Bugs and Troubleshooting message board will be booming with bugs, to be fixed as the progress continues.
