Paint.net freezes, Taskmanager says deadlocked

I have long had a problem with PDN freezing when I try to create a new document, despite reinstalling it three times. I brings up the New dialog, then sticks on the hourglass. In  Task Manager it is noted as Not Responding.

 

Have just installed 4.2.12 - same problem. My system is Windows Home 64-bit, Intel I5-6600K, 16GB memory and using the Classic version of PDN.

Just installed a trial version of the MS Store app: same problem

Welcome to the forum @Reged :)

 

To begin with, please try going to

1.  OS (C:) – Program Files – Paint.net – scroll down to the  PdnRepair.exe and run it.

2.  Please check all of your Windows updates are up-to-date.

Yeah if you have some clipboard management app installed it could be interfering with this. (it's a bug in the other app, mind you)

So I solved the problem. Seems in my case it was one of the applications associated with Stardock Object Desktop Manager, which I have now completely uninstalled
