Deleting a Selection

Whenever I delete a selection using backspace, it doesn't make transparent pixels and instead makes black pixels, so I end up erasing it. I want to fix this so I can easily remove things without erasing. Thanks!

The Backspace key fills the selection with the Primary Color.

 

The Delete key will make the pixels transparent.
