1.  I would first try to delete the white background by using the Magic wand :MagicWandTool: and place with the settings in the tolerance bar, to set the amount to select.     Edit - I didn't realize that your image was on a transparent layer.

2.  Hit delete.

3. To finish you AA's Assistant to clean up any rough edges.

4.  Make a new layer, underneath you image and use a gradient or another color.

I've never used this plugin but it might be useful too.

There are a number of subtle shadows which are going to skew the results of the Magic Wand selection. Instead of the Magic Wand, I'd go for a plugin which allows the retention of those subtle shadows. My usual recommendations are AlphaSpace or Kill Color Keeper, but there are many other worthy plugins.

Whenever I copy that image, it doesn't have a Solid White background, did I miss the original?

I am working on a plug-in for this and it will be ready soon, but I have the perfect free companion website:

PixelDatabase.Net

A free online text based image editor.

Take this source image:

To remove the white background:

Hide

Total > 700

-

Total is the sum of Red + Green + Blue, and White is 765, so white pixels will be removed.

Result:

Then you can add a layer for your gradient background.

Or you can change the background color to a named color or RGB values.

Update

Set Color Wheat

Where

Total > 700

If it were me I'd just redo the orange text with a transparent background.

So if you know the font and the method or plugin used to create the soft shadow/outline then it would likely give you a cleaner result than using a colour replacement plugin or Magic Wand.

Using colour replacement the small 'shadowed' areas enclosed by the upper case A, B, P and R would be problematic I think.

The rest should work by using either of the other methods suggested although, again, the shadows will be problematic and might be best if the 'phone and book were cut out as cleanly as possible and the shadows manually added behind in another layer.

Indeed.  The .png image/ advertisement  posted  has a transparent white background (210 -255 ; alpha 2 ).

Great advice from the moderators who   didn't see through the advertising spam.

Solid white transformed into transparent?  Clearly a miracle.

Advertising spam? I write code and give away code 100% free, 100% of the time. I am sorry you consider free code, spam.

Here is my Git Hub page if you want to look at 36 projects: https://github.com/DataJuggler

And here is a video I just made showing copying the image from this forum and pasting into Paint.Net.

Have a good day.

What do you mean Transparent White, those are two different things.

Here is a video showing it is transparent, not white.

The hex value is #FEFEFE and the Alpha value is 0 = transparent white (or nearly white). Transparent black would be #000000 and Alpha = 0.

I'm assumed the user is genuine as they joined in 2014. So hardly a fly-by-nighter. You never know, @witness might just be Hugh H.

Woah back DataJ. I think Anonymiss was referring to the original post.

No she called me clearly spam, when I am trying to build a plug-in to give away, I was just showing a preview here.

Spam is when you try and sell something. Free information that might help someone is called freedom of speech. If not free speech zone here, I speak where it is.

And if she wasn't talking to me, it reminds me of this time I walked out of this store and these two women were walking in.

One of them looked right at me and said 'I like those pants.'

I said thank you, what would you say?

And they both started laughing?

The world is not always about me.

Don't be absurd. The reference was to Moderators who "didn't see through the advertising spam". Both Mods replied before you did.
