What are your initial thoughts of the browser?

  1. 1. What are your initial thoughts of the browser?

    • I like the browser very much. The lightweight UI with the near lightning load times have me addicted and I probably will not turn back to alternative browsers

    • It is a very solid release but I will be staying with my choice of web browser

    • I do not like it and will probably not release it

    • I have not downloaded it yet!

Not only is Chrome good at starting out with lower RAM, but with other browsers, as you browse, the RAM usage steadily climbs and climbs... Chrome has the same RAM usage for the same page whether your browser has been running for 2 seconds or 2 days.

C:\Users\Profle Name(you login name)\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\User Data

There is a file "Local State"

Open with notepad, get rid of the id so it looks like this.

"user_experience_metrics": {
     "client_id": "",
     "client_id_timestamp": "",

Save, and make the file Read-only.

Now run and exit Chrome again, Chrome will create a "Local State.tmp"

Open this file and do the same as above.

Save, and make Read-only.

Chrome shoudn't make any more back ups... I think.

Unless you want Google to keep track of you ;)

Or "C:\Documents and Settings\[username]\Local Settings\Application Data\Google\Chrome\User Data"

I would write plugins, if I knew what kind of plugins were needed.. :(

Chrome just hard crashed on me. :(

It asked me if I wanted to debug... I said, "No." And all windows just closed.

I thought it wasn't supposed to do that. :?

I was just surfing this forum. I bet it was caused by a misbehaved banner ad.

Also, here's an annoying thing... I see red underlines when I misspell words, however, I can't figure out how to have it give me suggestions for proper spellings and replace the offending word with a good one. There doesn't seem to be a context menu...

There is. If nothing appears when you try to right-click on the text try selecting it first, then if there are spelling suggestions they will appear along with the standard edit-menu options.

Acid3 result: 75/100 (disappointing for a google product really..)

edit: it magically changed to 78 (still disappointing, and how did it change?!)

Acid 3 gives me a 79 today. (I really wish they'd update to the latest version of Webkit.)

Google Chrome has already been updated. Silently.

You can see what version you are running by going to the about box.

I never even noticed that it had downloaded an update, but there it was. :D

This browser sucks unless you are using broadband or higher.
Dude, the internetz suck unless you are using broadband or higher....lol

P.S.

Broadband, being a relative term, can refer to any high bandwidth connection type...so, saying "or higher" is superfluous.

I use a broadband citywide wireless network.

Considering its free, but the time everyone else is on, its slower than dialup.

And I meant higher as FiOS, T1, or T3

Wow. The latest build of Chrome sucks. Most of the time I go to web pages with check boxes, they don't render.

So, I searched around and found where they put the nightly builds of Chrome: http://build.chromium.org/buildbot/continuous/LATEST/

I tried it for a day.

I love the non clutter, it's looks clean and fresh.

I like the one box to search and insert site addresses.

I don't like the fact that when you close the last tab, the whole browser closes.

I don't like the spell checker thing. I typed "ok" and it had a red line with no way to add to the dictionary and the alternatives that came up were nothing like the word "ok".

I hope there will be options to change the colour scheme.

For me, it seems FF is faster. I don't ever use IE anymore so haven't compared it with that.

I'm a creature of habit :lol: So maybe I'll have to use it a bit more to get used to it but for now, I much prefer FF as the add-ons I have and the general habit-stuff is hard to beat :lol:

I've seen a lot of people complain about this, but if you think about it, it's only logic. Consider this: Every tab is a separate process. While they all feature the same toolbars, I think those are on their own as well, because when one opens 3 tabs, there are 3 chrome.exe's. Also, when one is dragged out, A new window opens, but there is no extra process appearing. There would be if there was a sort of "management" window, keeping all the tabs in one place, but there is not. The tabs are simply connected to each other. There is not a parent window that keeps them around for you. If you were to close the last tab, there would be no processes of chrome running anymore.
