Uneyed
I'm glad to see the old paint.net forum is still running wild! I've been a member for a long time so it's actually more of an re-introduction. I've never really contributed much to the community in the way of tutorials or anything but I have helped out some new users from time to time and I always tell people about Paint.net. Good to see some familiar users and new ones too. Maybe I'll hang around and do some stuff!

Chriss
Hello Everyone, sorry if this is in the wrong forum or whatever, but I couldn't see any places to introduce yourself to the community...? My name's Chris, I'm 19 from Plymouth in Devon. I'm a freelance graphic designer and got wind of Paint.net via a friend who made some leaflets using the program, as I pay currently (through the noise... ) for Photoshop and a few other things to do with graphics/photo manipulation etc etc, I'm always interested to hear of new ways to save money, at this time especially any money saved is a good thing. I tried to use GIMP but couldn't get my head around it, and anything like Picasa I find is too 'amateur' for my line of work. Paint.Net offers a simple to use interface, while at the same time giving professional results. It really is a breeze to use, after a few hours tinkering (The adding a new layer for text/images especially) but I really don't understand why it's not more mainstream. It's always nice to see an active community for support/plugins etc for a product, I often get quite disheartened with the adobe forums and some users thinking because you're asking for help it's a sign of weekness. From what I've seen there's none of that on this forum. Hopefully I can make this my main product, ween myself off Photoshop.

Mr Manfranjansen
Hello everyone! I've been lurking for a long time, but everything seems pretty friendly so I finally worked up the nerve to post something. I'm from Southern California (near Pasadena) and I've been using Paint.NET for over a year. Most of that time was spent messing around and trying to get things to work the way I wanted. Specifically, I made a rather silly computer game, but since I can't draw I needed a program that would at least help me manipulate existing images. A friend at work told me about Paint.NET and I've been using it ever since. It made a lot of sense because there are a lot of great tutorials and my buddy already knows how to use the program so I had some built in support. Just so you know....if anyone tells you that .jpg's are terrible to use as sprites in video games...they're sorta-kinda right. However, if you clean them up properly (something Paint.NET let me do well), they'll work fine. It was much faster to do that then learn how to draw anything other than stick figures! When I finished the game (I only released it to friends and co-workers as a gag...it worked out great...got lots of laughs) I continued to look at the tutorials and WHAM! Something so basic hit me like a ton of bricks! LAYERS! I know many of you are thinking, "What an idiot! He didn't understand layers? That's one of the most powerful features!" Well...I didn't get it. It would've saved me a BUNCH of time on the game. I'd manipulate a new image, get it into Paint.NET, cut it out and paste as a new layer to get it into a different image. Then I had to learn how to work on that layer the whole time because otherwise, I thought I'd lose the ability to work on it again without (get this...it's really lame) getting out of my project and loading it up again...(because it defaulted to the layer I wanted...something like that). I discovered the planet tutorials and I was so intrigued that I made a bunch of different planets with varying degrees of success. This inspired me to make a sci-fi board game. My daughter and I have been working on it for several months. She even made a planet and I liked it so much I added it to the board. So...I've now got 4 okay looking planets (the bases for the players), a space scape, complete with space dust, and stars, and an asteroid field. Then I found the hex-grid plug in and now I have spaces for the players to move. Everything is 100% PDN, except the asteroids. I couldn't figure out how to make a cool asteroid, so I grabbed several off Google images and messed around with the colors. I don't really plan on releasing this game...I just enjoy the journey, and even if I did decide to publish it I'd get a proper artist to make something original. I've also got a card prototype I kinda like. I made a lot of use of the buttons on this one (and the frame plug-in/effect...not sure if frames is a plugin or if it came with PDN). I'm a bit stuck at the moment, though. I've made a really long post and I'm sorry about that. Perhaps I should post where I'm stuck in a different thread. Yes. You have suffered enough. Thanks for sticking with me and reading through this whole thing! -Mr. Man-
Heat Stroke
Welcome Mr. Man! I have found that google searching "___ tutorial" can give you a lot of results! I have found MANY asteroid tutorials for photoshop, and most of them are very easily translated to PDN. Just because it is a photoshop/gimp/etc tutorial, doesnt mean you cant use it for PDN. Glad your here and I hope you open a gallery so we all can see your works! Quote Wait! No matter where you go, there you are! We're all wise guys. They're not nearly of the quality I've seen, so I'm a bit hesitant to show you what I've done. Still, most everyone seems to offer constructive criticism instead of flames, so maybe I'll post the game board and one of the cards I did. I also want to post a pic of where I'm stuck at the moment and get some tips. It never occurred to me to get asteroid tuts from Gimp and/or Photoshop and convert them to PDN. I'll have to look into that! Thanks, Heatstroke! -Mr. Man- Edited May 6, 2011 by Mr Manfranjansen

Osl112
Hey all. I'm Osl112 and am from a little place called England. I've been using Paint.Net for a little while now... year or two but never plucked the courage to actually sign up on the forums until now. I use PDN to make all sorts of graphics, mainly sprites and sigs/tags though. See you all round

Tater
Hey everyone. I'm Tater, as you can see by the name. I've been using PDN since I was 12. I'm 13 now, probably younger than most of the community here. Anyway, I first got the program when I was 11 because my dad had uninstalled regular ol' paint so I was looking for an alternative. I stumbled across Paint.NET, and hated it because it was too hard for me. After a few more months without any image editor on the PC, I became desperate and re-downloaded Paint.NET. Then I went a few months using only the basic features of PDN, like gradients etc. It was still too hard for me. Next I caught on to tutorials. They helped me get to where I am now. Now I am sometimes writing tutorials for novices. I wouldn't call myself a pro with PDN, I'm far from it. I'd call myself intermediate or slightly below it. I have visited this forum multiple times before as a guest, mainly for plugins. Today I suddenly decided to make an account. The community here seems great. Oh well, I hope I have a great time here, and I hope I will improve on Paint.NET.
