Debate: McCain's New Running Mate!

I think that voting for a woman for the sake of voting for a woman is just as bad as not voting for someone because they are a woman...

The candidates should be judged on their experience and principles, not their gender.

Having said that, I have lost a lot of respect for McCain because he just trying to buy girl votes with a girl veep. There were plenty of better qualified male and female choices that were passed over; it looks like McCain was trying to find a female with a decent track record and no bad baggage.

I think it was a good choice. By choosing her, McCain shows he isn't running a same-old same-old campaign. Plus she does have a good track record. I think McCain's just trying to round out his campaign.

The other reason McCain picked Sarah Palin is that she's the governor of Alaska, where George W. Bush and his Republican oil-company pals have been trying for years to get their hands on fragile, protected wilderness areas so they can turn them into oil- and gas-producing wastelands. They'd love to have a sympathetic Alaskan politician at the top level of federal government.

I heard she was under investigation for abusing her power as governor of Alaska? Something to do with her sister and ex-brother in law? I'm not sure where I got that from, I'll have to look it up. I think McCain could have done a better job picking a VP. He talks about Obama being in experienced, she doesn't have that much experience either. I wouldn't want her to be president if McCain ended up being president and -God forbid- anything happened to him.

And I giggle whenever anyone says "track record" now as Track is one of her kids names.

She is anything but sympathetic to Big Oil, as exemplified by her record.

She is under investigation because someone from her office called to inquire after Palin's sister's then-husband was fired. There's not necessarily anything to investigate, and Palin has said that she was not aware of the phone call until after it happened.

I really dont like this girl. She questions global warming

There is simply not enough science to confirm global warming as a human-caused situation. There is not enough science on the other side of the debate either. Yes, temperature trends have been increasing, but it could be part of a natural cycle (nature is change, after all), or it could be caused by greenhouse gases, or cow farts, or gradual changes in the condition of our sun and the orbits of the planets around it, etc. Right now, we simply do not know. And anyone who claims anything definitive on either side of that line is simply a radical blowing it out their rear.

I really dont like this girl. She is in a gun club.

The NRA is not a "gun club." They are an organization dedicated to protecting American rights. Rights given to us in the 2nd amendment to our constitution. The first 10 amendments are our Bill of Rights. Rights given to every American citizen, without question. And yet, a bunch of left-wing nutjobs are trying to take that away.

Legal gun ownership decreases crime. When guns are illegal, people with bad intentions will still manage to get them. It has always been like that, and always will be. But good-intentioned people will be unable to get them, leaving them defenseless.

Which scenario sounds better to you:

[*:2ui4nkfn]Criminals have guns. Average citizens do not. The criminals have no fear, and thus no inhibitions. Short of robbing a bank or attempting to assassinate a president, anyway.
[*:2ui4nkfn]Criminals have guns. Responsible, educated members of society have them as well. Criminals will always have that nagging doubt in the back of their mind before mugging someone, robbing a house or a store, etc: does anyone else around here have a gun too?

It's not a fact of whether its a human caused effect or natural. Whether or not its actually happening is totally without question. IMO, its a mixture of both. Also most of the "debate" about Global warming is media and corporate companies "kicking up dust" about it. Its totally sell out to buy the bias bloody potato media churns out.

Which scenario sounds better to you:

  • [*:v16hijk9]Criminals have guns. Average citizens do not. The criminals have no fear, and thus no inhibitions. Short of robbing a bank or attempting to assassinate a president, anyway.

Okay the second one, but you seem to have conveniently missed out the irresponsible, uneducated citizens who own guns. I rekon we should just take out the whole gun thing all together.

Why do people have guns? To stop other people shooting them with guns.

How would people be able to shoot someone else? Because they legally own a gun.

So someone breaks into your house intending to take your TV or whatever. The owner comes out and shoots them, the burglars dead. If the owner had let him go then called the police, you'd end up with your TV back and person going (possibly) to jail.

Which scenario sounds better to you:

  • [*:v16hijk9]Owner lets burglar go and calls the police, burglar gets done for breaking and entering...etc, and the owner might get his TV back or whatever.
[*:v16hijk9]Owner comes out and shoots the burglar, For the rest of your life you know you've killed someone. Burglars family hires a good lawyer and owner gets done for some stupid murder/man slaughter charge

I'm not backing the burglar, i just don't believe you should but your wide screen TV in front of somebody's life, whatever petty crime they've committed.

McCain only met the woman twice before picking her as his running mate. It's obvious he justs wants to have a woman so he can get a little more media attention.

Kinda sad really. I'd much rather have competent people running and competent people voting. But instead we have a nation filled with people who just want to see the first black president or the first female president.

While that's fine, it's better to make a politically informed decision rather than a decision based off of personal preferences. a lot of people don't even look into the candidate before voting. They just look at the core BS issues and their party affiliation.

At the end of the day, the president is still a figurehead and doesn't have as much power as people like to think, but it's better to have a good person in office than an idiot.

Everyone has probably already heared this, but the GOP are in for some more bad news, and according to swamppolitics.com, McCain knew this when choosing his running-mate. Note that this post is not an expression of my opinion over how and if this will affect the election.

Oh, wow... I hadn't heard about it.

I think it will affect John McCain's campaign because, traditionally, it has been the Christian Right that has been the Republican's biggest supporters. And the Christian Right has never been in love with McCain because he is not as open with his religion as Bush was. Earlier this year, Dobson (from "Focus On The Family") had said that he would stay home on election day if McCain won the nomination of the GOP. When McCain won, he changed his stance and said that he would vote for McCain, but only because he was the lesser of two evils.

Note, I disagree with the ethics of this hurting McCain's campaign, but I think it will.

That might be right in America, but anti-gun laws have increased security tremendously in India. It is ridiculously hard to get a gun here (legally or illegally). Ridiculously. In my district, there is maybe only one gun related crime every 6 or so years, and it almost never results in death/serious injury. But then again criminals have other means: in a back alley in Agra a few years ago, a tourist got robbed by three men in a back alley: one was weilding an old, rusty knife, another a sharpened pencil, and the last, bare fists.

The reason I honestly don't believe it will affect his campaign is simply because I doubt the Christian right will want to help the Democrats, even through abscense.

You'd think so, but some of the not-so-politically-minded Christians may not get the memo, or ignore the memo, not to make a stink of it. Also, you have to remember, many of the Christian Right are so self-righteous, they will condemn anything they see wrong, whether it helps or hurts them.

I was one of the Christian fundamentalists several years ago. I know what I am talking about! :|

Yes honestly.

She seems very inexperienced.

Like she's hasnt been anything higher than a governer of a state with under 1 million people.

Think of it this way: If McCain died, would you want her to rule our country?

It's not just the issue of guns vs. no guns. People are attacking our Bill of Rights. If the 2nd amendment goes, then it's only a matter of time before the rest of them are attacked. And dammit, I like having freedom of speech!'

But honestly, regardless of running mate, McCain and Obama are both incredibly terrible choices. And regardless of who wins, the next 4 years will probably be filled with a record number of assassination attempts. You might even see yours truly on the news

Maybe her governed state is not the most populated, but at least her experience is in the executive branch. That's more than can be said of Obama, who has about the same number of years political experience, but all in the legislative branch. So really, it could be said that Sarah Palin has more relevant experience, and she is only running for VP. Obama has less relevant experience and is trying to take the presidency.

I'm rooting for both candidates to suddenly fall too ill to run.

I'm registered independent (ZOMG I registered to vote!). Republicans piss me off. Democrats piss me off. Did you know the democrats tried to ban BEES in the entire city of DENVER for their national convention? Loonies.

Obama is showing some class about the Bristol Palin situation: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UA3m-g_SBY4

Now this is pure speculation, but is Bristol maybe being pressured into a marriage she doesn't want? She's been pregnant for 5 months, so why hasn't the wedding happened yet, or anyone heard of their affianced status until now? Now that the story has been blown sky-high, is the GOP pressuring Governor Palin to lay pressure upon her 17 year old daughter? Or maybe the GOP had nothing to do with it and its just the governor who's pressuring her? Or is the young couple really in love and just now deciding to wed after 5 months? Maybe it was a hard decision for them and it took 5 months to make it. I just think its funny they just made up their minds when the news broke out...

This little quiz tells me I'm 95% Libertarian. Probably an over-simplification of things, but at least now I know that this party is worth looking into.

That quiz makes most people Libertarian. whether that means most people are libertarian, or whether the quiz itself is biased to make more people libertarian, I don't know.

She's not married yet because she's 17.
