Scanning silver images

Recommended Posts

Newbie with Paint.Net here.

I tried scanning an image from a 2019 Christmas Card but the silver moon shape has come out as black.

Is there some special I need to do prior to scanning?

You may need use a copy stand and a camera with a polarizing lens filter.
You are getting glare from the foil that over exposes the area.

If you want to use the tools of Paint.NET you can use the Wand Tool to remove the black moon.

You will need a layer of the scan at normal exposure, and another layer that is under exposed so that the moon is captured correctly.
Layer where the moon is removed will be the top layer.

Or you can search the net for another moon with a transparent background to overlay the black moon.

BTW: the image of the moon is provided under CC BY-NC 4.0 Attribution-NonCommercial 4.0 International Creative Commons the image of rabbit and landscape many not be!
