throwawayakirbo
The installers don't work and the program itself is both outdated and crashes immediatly when i try to start it with the message of System.AccessViolationException: Attempted to read or write protected memory. This is often an indication that other memory is corrupt.

IHaveNoName
OP are you using the most up to date PDN installer sourced from here? Is your OS and MS .NET Framework up to date and the other installation requirements specified here met by your system? Hopefully the qualified tech gurus will be able to identify exactly what the problem is from the crash log but from the research I've just done it suggests this error can be difficult to diagnose. When others have reported the same error message about PDN they've been pointed at the general crash solutions thread:- https://forums.getpaint.net/topic/692-install-update-or-uninstall-trouble-read-this/ Unfortunately there are several threads you can find here which seem to be about the same thing ie. report the same error message and end up with no confirmed resolution. Hate that. Some other forums for the same error message but different programs which crash blame the users anti-virus or incomplete removal of an old installation. A solution that apparently worked for one person was to turn on DEP (Data Execution Prevention) for all programs in advanced computing settings. But do not do anything like that before the experts here have seen the crash log and replied.

Rick Brewster
Exception details: System.AccessViolationException: Attempted to read or write protected memory. This is often an indication that other memory is corrupt. at System.Text.RegularExpressions.Regex..cctor() From the looks of it, my guess is that some system file is corrupt. Try repairing the .NET Framework. Also run chkdsk, and sfc /scannow Quote The Paint.NET Blog: https://blog.getpaint.net/ Donations are always appreciated! https://www.getpaint.net/donate.html
throwawayakirbo
I tried the stuff in CMD, both told me nothing was wrong. I tried repairing my NET Framework, that did something i suppose. However nothing has changed and the installer still doesn't work. throwawayakirbo
UPDATE: Other things that relied on the NET framework broke for me too. The repairer didn't fix any of it.
Pixey
Why don't you try to clean up all the bits on your computer via this tool: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/17588/fix-problems-that-block-programs-from-being-installed-or-removed Then re-install Paint.net from the link that @IHaveNoName gave in his post.
