PaulJ
Hey guys, I was wondering if in the future there could be a port for Android of Paint.net? I use it a lot (thanks for this awesome tool btw!!) and I am trying to stop using computers and use only smartphones thanks to the desktop mode. The only problem is that android is missing things on software side. Paint.net is one application that I would love to use there. NOT as a mobile app. But as a desktop app with mouse cursor/window mode. As you can do with Samsung Dex, Huawei EMUI or the newer Android 10. I'm using a Honor-View-20 on a <snip> and it's really a great desktop experience. It's just sad that so many software are still missing... Rick Brewster
Sorry, absolutely no plans for this. Quote The Paint.NET Blog: https://blog.getpaint.net/ Donations are always appreciated! https://www.getpaint.net/donate.html
PaulJ
No plan for now but maybe in the future? Maybe I could work on a port myself if that interest you. Is the source open for such ? I never wondered if your project was an open source one.
BoltBait
There are no plans because the source code to Paint.NET is over half a million lines of code that relies on the .NET platform. Android doesn’t have the .NET platform on it. Quote Download: BoltBait's Plugin Pack | CodeLab | and a Computer Dominos Game
PaulJ
With https://dotnet.microsoft.com/apps/xamarin it would not be possible to build without too much modifications?

Correct, it would not. Paint.NET still has many Windows dependencies that aren't even part of .NET. For example: WIC, Direct2D, and DXGI. 36 minutes ago, PaulJ said: NOT as a mobile app. But as a desktop app with mouse cursor/window mode. As you can do with .... the newer Android 10. I'm not sure what Android 10 has to do with anything here. Mouse and keyboard support was added in Android 3.1, and multi-window support was added in Android 6. Reptillian
There's the big issue of having to change interface and testing if it works well. And the complication of coding in general, it's a pain to work with code already. Quote G'MIC Filter Developer

I already said as much. I realize you're enthusiastic about the idea, and that's a really great attitude to have, but I'm definitely not enthusiastic about it. So please let it rest. 1 Quote The Paint.NET Blog: https://blog.getpaint.net/ Donations are always appreciated! https://www.getpaint.net/donate.html
