Paste into the confines of selection area ?

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

Can anybody tell me if there is a way, however so, to paste something into a selection without the pasted image/layer going outside the highlighted selection. What i would like to do is highlight a selected area on an image/layer and then paste another image and be able to move it, increase/decrease its size all within the highlighted selection of the first.

I somehow found a way of doing it about 2 weeks ago but I'm damned if I can remember what I did.

Any help appreciated.

Thanks

Hello @Bebeto94 and Welcome :)

Have a try with @BoltBait's  'Fill from Clipboard' which is found in his Plugin Pack

In this instance it'll be quicker to make the selection on your layer ... Ctrl + C to copy ... Ctrl + shift + V to paste into a new layer ... uncheck the layer you copied from ... play with your copied selection (By copying the selection and then unchecking the layer,  it's still there if you want to make any changes)

I'm a fan of Fill from File/ Clipboard but in this instance it'll save you playing with the placement sliders to position it inside the selection correctly

What I would do is:

1. Get your selection.

2. Cut it.

3. Paste to a new layer.

4. Move that layer down 2 spaces

5. Add a new layer in between them.

You can now do whatever you want to do on the in-between layer.

If you know what you're doing is going to take up the entirety of the "selection" and you're just moving it around/resizing it, then you can skip steps 3 and 4 and just make a new layer underneath the layer you cut.
