toe_head2001
Please install the .NET Framework first: https://dotnet.microsoft.com/download/thank-you/net48 Once that has been installed, try to install paint.net again. Let us know how it goes. Quote (September 25th, 2023) Sorry about any broken images in my posts. I am aware of the issue. Cubit
I was using 4.2.1 without any problem. Then the other day a window popped up when I opened the software, making me aware of an update. I selected to have the update downloaded once I closed the program. After I exited, the download began. However, the installation did not complete. I downloaded the newest net framework, but the program will still not work. The message says that the program cannot open. I tried to restore to the older version, but I was not able to--probably because during the new installation attempt it erased the older installation. Although I see the icon for the older installation, it will not open when I click it. I tried to download and install another fresh version and it failed. I tried to install an older version and it too failed. My operation system is Windows 7.
toe_head2001
If your current Paint.NET installation is broken, please use this utility to remove it: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/17588/windows-fix-problems-that-block-programs-being-installed-or-removed Afterwards, try to install the latest version of Paint.NET again. Let us know how it goes. Quote (September 25th, 2023) Sorry about any broken images in my posts. I am aware of the issue. Cubit
Thanks for replying. I did try that before, having looked for solutions. For some reason nothing happens at all when I try to use the tool.
Cubit
Update: The Program Install and Uninstall troubleshooter finally started working. I don't know if my virus protector was holding it up or what. The troubleshooter did uninstall the old installation fragment for paint.net. However, I re-downloaded the newest version and tried to install, but the same problem occurred. Click details in the setup wizard showed this the first time: Setup Wizard has stopped working Problem signature: Problem Event Name: APPCRASH Application Name: SetupFrontEnd.exe Application Version: 4.205.7213.32560 Application Timestamp: 5d9395b9 Fault Module Name: KERNELBASE.dll Fault Module Version: 6.1.7601.24441 Fault Module Timestamp: 5cb935a7 Exception Code: e0434352 Exception Offset: 000000000000bdfd OS Version: 6.1.7601.2.1.0.256.48 Locale ID: 1033 Additional Information 1: 7ccb Additional Information 2: 7ccb2fa98342573c8a26d5624a3b51e6 and this the 2nd time: Problem signature: Problem Event Name: APPCRASH Application Name: SetupFrontEnd.exe Application Version: 4.205.7213.32560 Application Timestamp: 5d9395b9 Fault Module Name: KERNELBASE.dll Fault Module Version: 6.1.7601.24441 Fault Module Timestamp: 5cb935a7 Exception Code: e0434352 Exception Offset: 000000000000bdfd OS Version: 6.1.7601.2.1.0.256.48 Locale ID: 1033 Additional Information 1: 7ccb Additional Information 2: 7ccb2fa98342573c8a26d5624a3b51e6
