Rick Brewster
To get this update, make sure you have "Also check for pre-release (beta) versions" enabled in Settings, and then click on the Check Now button. You can also download it directly: https://www.getpaint.net/files/zip/test/paint.net.4.200.7116.7553.install.zip Changes since 4.2 beta build 7111: New: Saving in HEIC format is now supported. Windows 10 v1809+ is required, along with installation of HEVC Video Extensions from Device Manufacturer (free) from the Microsoft Store. Improved: If you try to open or save an HEIC and you do not have the Microsoft codec installed, the error message will provide you a link to go get it. (The link is in the "Show Details" section) Fixed: Pasting from some sources (e.g. Google Chrome) should no longer be shifted to the right by 3 pixels, nor have 3 colored pixels at the bottom left, and should also have working alpha/transparency again. This appears to be a bug in Windows 10 v1903 when both CF_DIB and CF_DIBV5 are on the clipboard and in that order (in other words, CF_DIB is higher priority than CF_DIBV5). Fixed: The LowColor File Type plugin should work again. It still has a bug where it may show its own error dialog while you are modifying the properties for saving. This dialog can be ignored and dismissed. 2 1 The Paint.NET Blog: https://blog.getpaint.net/ Donations are always appreciated! https://www.getpaint.net/donate.html

ReMake
I noticed that the help file created in CodeLab in paint.net version 4.1.6 looked like this: This is how it looks in version 4.2:
Rick Brewster
That's likely just a difference in the TaskDialog API, related to the change "Fixed: Simple message boxes can now be closed with the ESC key". *shrug* Not sure much can be done about it. 1 1 The Paint.NET Blog: https://blog.getpaint.net/ Donations are always appreciated! https://www.getpaint.net/donate.html
Rick Brewster
Bad news. It looks like the HEIF codec has a heap corruption bug in it. If you try to save an HEIC and are unlucky then it will crash the app -- it terminates immediately and "vanishes". Major data loss bug. So for now I'm going to have to remove HEIC saving functionality. I just can't responsibly include it. I think I'll have a hidden registry setting to re-enable it if you want to experiment with it, however. 1 The Paint.NET Blog: https://blog.getpaint.net/ Donations are always appreciated! https://www.getpaint.net/donate.html
xod
This image was extracted from a PDF document using Adobe Acrobat. Note how small the title is displayed. After changing the file name everything has returned to normal.
Rick Brewster
@xod, that's intentional. The font size is reduced in order to fit the text into the titlebar. The beta includes the full version number so there's less space. Final releases are less cramped up there. Once Microsoft fixes this bug I will put the range back to the full 0 to 100. Rick Brewster
I'll look into that. Can you provide me more info? What is the size of the image you're trying to save there? What type of CPU do you have? Rick Brewster
re: HEIC. The good news is that I will be able to include saving functionality in 4.2. The bad news is that I must limit the Quality slider to a maximum of 90 until Microsoft fixes the heap corruption / crashing bug. The good news is that I believe they're fixing it So hopefully a 4.2.1 release or something can re-enable the full range. ReMake
This situation is not constant and occurs at random times. In version 4.1.7 it was the same.
