how about scaling a selection? I have the latest version but cant seem to do that. I mean I can resize an image, just not scale it.

its like being given half a sandwhich...... but then realising that half a sandwhich contains the most amazing filling ever, and then finding some money on the floor to buy the scond half of the sandwhich.

^the most complex and in-understable metaphor in the world.

how about scaling a selection?

To scale a selection, select the area and switch to the "Move" tool. You'll then get boxes at each corner and in the midde of each side. Grab one of those boxes and move the mouse.

While you're resizing, look down in the Status Bar (bottom left), and you will be able to see the pixel size of your newly scaled selection.

You mean rotation? Download the latest v2.5 release. Select an area using any selection tool, and then drag with the right mouse button while the Move Selected Pixels tool is active.

Ok, then download the latest release of v2.5 and go to Layers -> Rotate/Zoom. I suppose a more up-to-date name would be Rotate/Zoom/Tilt, but then it gets to be a bit verbose.
