The 2018 Paint.NET Forum Awards Show!

BoltBait

Recommended Posts

Welcome to the 2018 Paint.NET Forum Awards Show! Where you decided the best of 2018, the worst of 2018, and everything in between!

:arrow-left: Hi, I'm your host, BoltBait.

OK, let's dive right in to the first award for the evening...

The Mimi Bobeck Award:

This one's for the biggest forum troll of 2018 on the Paint.NET forum. As I'm sure you're aware, a forum troll is someone who posts a lot, whose posts don't always have an overflow of useful content, and who's posts are typically contrarian in nature. Not to say that they never have relevant posts, but -- ah hell, it's 2018, you guys know what a forum troll on the Internet is by now.

The nominees for this award include: ugh, too many to list

And, the big winner with 31% of the vote is... ScrapbookwithPDN :trophy:

Congratulations (I think?) :D

Now, one for the mods of this wonderful board.

The Real Estate Award:

This one's for the mod who tends to close posts the most – they are always there, just waiting for someone to break the rules or post something useless. Decide that you're gonna make a post wrong forum? BAM! This guy moves it before you even get a reply. Some n00b spamming the forums with Viagra ads? BAM! Bant! Not only does this guy close posts, but he wields the banhammer in a way which would make Thor proud.

The nominees for this award include, surprisingly enough: most of the mods!

The runner-up with 22% of the vote is... BoltBait (Hey! That's me!)

And, the winner with 67% of the vote is...  toe_head2001 :trophy:

Keep up the great work!

Now, back to an award you probably don't want to win.

The "Wrong End of A Massive Pwnage" Award:

You have seen it before… a member posts their unsupported opinion as fact and you just watch and wait for an intelligent member to come in and fry them. This award is, as the title suggests, for the member who has been on the wrong end of a massive pwnage, or has one coming their way sooner than later.

The nominees for this award include: HCGS, IHaveNoName, and Sakana Oji

The runner-up with 29% of the vote is... CodeDmitry

The winner with 57% of the vote is...   HyReZ :trophy:

Congrats! And, be on the lookout for that massive pwnage! :D

Next up, an award that no one would be embarrassed to win.

The Proton Award:

This one is for the member who, overall, has the most positive input to the Paint.NET forum. Whether it's through modship, Paint.NET help, organizing UBB games, valuable input in the suggestions threads, etc; this member is always there to give something back to the community.

The nominees for this award include: too many to list (which is a testament to how great our board is)

The runner-up with 18% of the vote is... Pixey

The winner with 38% of the vote is... Ego Eram Reputo :trophy:

Now for an award where just about everyone came in second.

The Big Bird Award:

This one is for the friendliest soul on the boards. Thoughts toward the vernacular aside, the winner of The Big Bird Award is someone who's always warm, friendly and fuzzy to the other members.

The nominees for this award include: Ego Eram Reputo and lynxster4

The runner-up with 18% of the vote is...  HyReZ

And, the winner with 64% of the vote is... Seerose :trophy:

Wow! You look great in yellow!

Next, we have an award that everyone would win, if only we knew you better.

The Howard Hughes Award:

This one goes out to the most eccentric member of the boards. Whether it's stem cell research, abortion, or what they had for lunch yesterday; this member always seems to be on the other side of a debate. Of course, this award doesn't go to just any argumentative soul, this one's for someone who does it well.

The nominees for this award include:  HCGS and Dipstick

The runner-up with 25% of the vote is... Welshblue

And, the winner with 50% of the vote is... HyRez :trophy:

Way to go!

The Radiance Award:

This award goes out to the most brilliant Paint.NET forumer. This person always has something to say, and sure enough, they're usually right. They know everything about some things, and seemingly something about everything. When someone struck you as a smart cookie, this is where you acknowledged that.

The nominees for this award include:

The runner-up with 19% of the vote is... Ego Eram Reputo

And, the winner with 31% of the vote is... BoltBait :trophy:

Keep on shining!

Rookie of the Year Award:

This award goes out to the new member who made the biggest impact on the community. To be eligible for this award, the user must have joined after January 1, 2018.

The nominees for this award include:   Sakana Oji, Mallaboro, and Rick Brewster?

The winner with 33% of the vote is...  IHaveNoName :trophy:

Now, there's an award you can't win twice in a row!

The Homer Simpson Award:

This award goes out to the funniest forum member. Whether it be wit, shock value, clever writing, or some other form of humor which I'm invariably forgetting, this member is always on top of it.

The nominees for this award include: Scooter

The runner-up with 33% of the vote is... BoltBait

The winner with 56% of the vote is... Welshblue :trophy:

You all crack me up! :D

Now, for the award that no one wants to win (or do they?)

The Pauly Shore Award:

This one goes to the unfunniest member. Maybe their wit isn't witty, or their shock value is too much. Whatever the case, here's your chance to recognize someone who specifically doesn't make you laugh. Oh, sure, they try... but always seem to come up short.

The nominees for this award include:  BoltBait, dipstick, IRON67, and IHaveNoName

The runner-up with 22% of the vote is... GillFelis

The winner with 38% of the vote is... MJW :trophy:

Better try more loller cats, guys!

The Hit & Miss Award:

This one's for the member who we miss -- for whatever reason (work, real life, bannination, death by meteor, etc.) they've left the discussion, and the Paint.NET forum members want them back.

The nominees for this award include: HELEN

The runner-up with 27% of the vote is... TechnoRobbo

And, the winner with 64% of the vote is... Red ochre :trophy:

We miss you! Come back!

The Spool Awards:

This category recognizes members who are big names in certain threads or certain types of threads for their knowledge or help.

Captain N: (The UBB gamer) Zagna

The MVP: (The sports guru) -NONE-

Siskel & Ebert: (The movie guru) BoltBait

Rolling Stone: (The music guru) BoltBait

101010: (The computer guru) toe_head2001

Congrats to all!

Next, on to the awards for Paint.NET prowess!

The Picasso Award:

This one goes to the member who consistently creates the weirdest art (in a good way) using Paint.NET.

The nominees for this award include:  BlastWave, lynxster4, and TREVOR

The runner-up with 27% of the vote is... SeeRose

And, the winner with 40% of the vote is...  Rickhum :trophy:

Well deserved recognition!

The Monet Award:

This one goes to the member who consistently creates the most beautiful art using Paint.NET.

The nominees for this award include:  MJW, Lynxster4, and Welshblue

The runner-up with 27% of the vote is... Pixey

And, the winner with 36% of the vote is... Woodsy :trophy:

The GE Award:

This one goes to the author who created the best plugin of 2018.

The nominees for this award include: ...just the 2 winners...

The runner-up with 19% of the vote is... MadJik

The winner with 91% of the votes is... null54 :trophy:  for the plugin G'MIC

I think we're *all* the winners of this award, don't you?

The Marilyn Monroe Award:

This award is for the best shape of 2018.

The nominees for this award include: ...just the winner...

The winner with 100% of the vote is... Lynxster4 :trophy:

The Marlboro Award:

Ever see one of those sigs and thought "Wow, that really makes me think!", or "Gee, that's awesome!"? Well, here's the category where you get the chance to recognize the member with that sig. This award is for the best signature of 2018.

The nominees for this award include:  TrevorOutlaw, lynxster4, and GillFelis

The runner-up with 18% of the vote is... Woodsy

The winner with 55% of the vote is... Pixey :trophy:

Paint.NET's Rabbi:

This one goes to the best teacher of 2018. Authors of tutorials newly written this year are eligible.

The nominees for this award include: ...just the winners...

The runner up with 20% of the vote is...  lynxster4

The winner with 80% of the vote is... Welshblue :trophy:

I think we can all learn from you!

Now, a few things thrown in just for fun!

1) “And your newest mod for the Paint.NET forum is null54!”

2) “Wow, look, Pixey is showing their art in the Louvre!”

3) “Hey, BoltBait has his own TV show!”

4) “Hello, I’m Rick Brewster, and I’m an alcoholic.”

6) “OMGWTFLOLBBQ, Rick Brewster just got bant good!”  (If this actually happens, you'll be the first to know!!!)

(My keyboard is on fire now... can't feel my fingers...)

And, finally, the award you’ve all been waiting for...

The Kings/Queens of Paint.NET:

This award is plainly & simply the popularity contest you know you all want. As one voter put it, "I'll let you decide who are the kings and who are the queens!"

The nominees for this award include: BlastWave, BoltBait, Ego Eram Reputo, HyRez, MJW, Seerose, and Woodsy

The third place spot with 11% of the vote is... Welshblue :trophy-bronze:

The runner-up with 14% of the votes is... lynxter4 :trophy-silver:

*Drum roll, please*

And, the clear winner with 19% of the vote is... Pixey the Queen of Paint.NET! :trophy:

Well done, one and all! :D

That about wraps it up for this year. I'd like to thank each and every one who turned in a ballot. You guys rock!

And, to all the winners, I raise my glass, "cheers!" :wine:

Good night. Rick, use a designated driver. Be safe, everyone. See you all next year!

Congratulations to everyone mentioned!

Thank you all for the Monet Award! I didn't even consider myself for an award. But I'm very pleased that others think that much of my work.

Thanks @Pixey for wanting to share your award with me but in the end it's your artwork that made the signature.

Thanks to @BoltBait for hosting again.

Well selected winners, each in his own field :-)))))
A cheerful thumbs for the winners in 2018.

Thanks to everyone who is always there for those who need help, who share their ideas with me and others.

Many thanks to all the winners, but also many thanks to those who are not on the list but who do so much with their help, their ideas and their willingness and patience in cases that are not always easy (I include myself in this), because knowledge is lacking and therefore implementation is difficult. Thanks to the winners for this help and to all the other helpers in this great forum!

Greetings from Hamburg/Germany

Congratulations to everyone. 😃

I am surprised at winning the Plugin of the Year award.

The G'MIC plugin would not have been possible without the work of Sébastien Fourey (the main author of the G'MIC-Qt front-end) and David Tschumperlé (the author of the G'MIC-core, a.k.a. @G'MIC on this forum).

I am not sure why someone would nominate me for the newest mod award, but it is funny that @Rick Brewster won the banned award.

I'm a forum troll because I don't have time to be here on a regular basis? I'm a forum troll because I try to keep up with PDN growth in between life, try to participate when I am around, compliment people on tutorials when I've had the time, took the time to actually log in to thank people for plug-ins, didn't post that I voted to help you publicly but did vote to help you out and PMed it to you after you were bummed out that nobody was participating, helped out and contributed to making nice shapes in the shape gallery, recently participated in a gallery competition, participated by recently creating a gallery, and a few days ago added a few more images to my gallery before no longer having much time to visit?

In doing so the people that do come here on a regular or daily basis decided I should be considered a big internet forum troll.

This year's forum ballot was the most difficult for me to submit with how very few are active participants on this forum these days.

Strongly disagrees with the winner of the Forum Troll award and WEOMPA.

The results after waiting for weeks left me feeling rather, "meh," about the whole thing.

@ScrapbookWithPDN: I recommend not feeling too bad about this troll thing, although I do understand how you are feeling at the moment. I myself was declared a forum troll some time ago and I felt rather bad for a while since it made me feel somehow irrelevant. Most members try to make their posting as relevant as possible, but what we say or do is not always interpreted by everyone as we mean it, and in this aspect social media is practically the same as life outside the internet, with some thinking you're a genius and others thinking the opposite. I myself haven't been what people would often regard as a relevant poster for a really long time. I wish I were able to write tutorials on various techniques I've been developing since I got into PdN, and I assume there would be a few members who would find them at least mildly interesting, but life has been getting in the way in many ways, and forum participation gets even harder when you are in charge of ailing parents like I am, so there isn't much that I can contribute at the moment. This troll thing is a bit of a controversial title, with some taking it humorously and others taking it as an offense. I've noticed that some members elected as trolls in the past are not active anymore, which is a pity since much of their input was quite positive at the time (one wonders whether they departed upon feeling disheartened by being awarded what many consider a negative title). I hope you won't consider dropping out because of this. Please don't take it to heart and just keep participating to the best of your abilities without paying much attention to this award thing <3

Other than the above, many congrats to those who attained the noncontroversial awards glad

Good for you for bringing to surface the sole purpose of BoltBait’s “Forum Troll” award. It’s not even in good taste, but he sure loves keeping it even after knowing negative consequences it has repeatedly created. Hey, if he likes it, and he’s been running this show since 2005, that’s all that counts, as it’s “all in fun”.

BoltBait’s joy, and insistence, on keeping his repeatedly proven controversial “Forum Troll” award (and another one in very poor taste) in use is very telling about his character, and the tone he likes to make sure stays here, “all in fun”, of course. Gotta’ love that “all in fun” card, he keeps repeating.

Since it’s all in the family, I’m not sure why big brother BoltBait, and those who are tight with him who will always want to stay in good graces with him, find his form of amusement to be in good taste or an effective way of promoting PDN “friendly” forum growth.

I felt kind of bad for forum family member BoltBait when he kept posting and that nobody was interested in taking part in his seemingly endless 'War and Peace' length award ceremony, and how he posted that forum participation was at its lowest. (Hmm…can’t imagine why that is).

The sole purpose for that particular award is, in fact, his use of passive aggressive behavior to be hateful, in a way he can try his best to make appear as “all in fun”. Some, certainly not all, just want to be so liked on here, so popular, that they will go along with anything to get along.

It’s all in fun, right BoltBait?  Still, one can’t help but wonder how many people have you “indirectly” caused to leave the forum, for no real reason other than you and a small handful of others feel they have no use to you or value here….all “in fun”, of course. So, like you say, “It’s all in fun”.

For everyone else, I genuinely am glad you all won recognition for your contributions. I clearly have little to nothing useful to contribute.  BoltBait, with a few others, went out of their way to make sure I knew that. You really should change the name of your “All in fun” negative award category to “The one we wish would LEAVE BoltBait’s forum because their use of PDN is of no interest to BoltBait and a few others” …..all in fun, of course.

Many of you are very talented.

How is it not in good taste? Why are you under the impression the whole purpose is to start a "flame war", or to make bad relations?

Care to elaborate with a few examples?

I like to think I'm in good graces with BoltBait, but that doesn't stop me from disagreeing with him or making a few snide comments to him.

This sentence seems like a contradiction.

I would have to disagree. You have already contributed plenty of quality material. Including, but not limited to those nice Shapes.

It sounds like you've drawn incorrect conclusions; ones that don't reflect with the awards' (and BoltBait's) intentions.

You may not care about my opinion on the matter...

But I wish I was voted the Troll! They have most fun. (your idea of fun may be different than mine).  Just look at all my snarky and wisenheimer comments across the forum. That's not to say I don't make helpful comments too.

Stick and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me.

Woah. That's all out or proportion ScrapbookWithPDN . BoltBait hosts the awards - shooting him as the messenger is a bit weird. 31% of the vote.....

And no, we don't have to be sycophants to know how to have some fun. Lighten up!

Would be interesting to see how it went down there ...

We never had a problem with any of the awards.  But, maybe because it was a bunch of gamers?  Anyway, the web site eventually fell into disrepair and the awards are no longer done.  (The site still exists, but there are, like, 10 active members now.)

Blame those 2 or 3 people

You are not wrong.

This year was the least amount of votes ever received.  And, remember, not everyone who votes casts a vote in every category.

Because the voting is open ended, I would really need 2x-3x the number of votes cast this year to make most of the categories meaningful.

Just due to the level of participation, I probably won't even do awards next year.

EDIT: We did have one issue here before where someone took offense to being awarded a negative award.  I took up the issue with Rick... here was my message to him:

I view the Paint.NET awards as a celebrity roast. Harmless fun.

However, this is Rick's site. So, I will give him the last word.

Should I...

Cancel the awards

Remove the negative ones and keep the rest

Continue unchanged

or

Add a Drama Queen and Cry Baby awards for next year :LeftArrowBlue:

Your call, Rick.

Take a guess how he responded... (Hint: :LeftArrowBlue:)

A sad day indeed 😥

Why not regig the format? I reckon forum users would be more engaged if they could nominate others throughout the year. The Awards would then start with compiling the nominees onto a voting form (poll?).

Oh and fewer categories and some different categories (Pyrochild needs a break!). The nominator would need to specify when making the nomination.....
