Image with alpha is darker when zoomed

Steps to reproduce:

  • Save the attached image, open in paint.net. It is just black with 50% opacity.
  • Zoom to 110%.
  • It is now shown darker than before.

It happens between 101%-199% zoom and sometimes around 50% zoom.

Hardware accelerated rendering option does not matter.

This is just a rendering artifact. The image isn't actually different. The reason this happens is due to how the image is drawn twice in order to smooth it out a bit.

 

Hopefully I'll be able to fix this someday without a huge performance cost :)
