How to create a white gradient background

I am printing on a transparent plastic sheet.  I need to create a white gradient background.  I created a new layer, which works fine for any color, but white.  When I select white as the primary color, it just doesn't print.  Plus when I add there is no way to make it fade...or, at least tell that is it fading.  As soon as I select white and click on the area the whole layer turns white.  Is there a way to do this?

Do you want to fade white color into transparent white?

If so use primary color as opaque white and secondary color as transparent white while using gradient.

I want to start with an almost opaque white and fade to nothing.  I am doing with blue right now, but I can't get white to work.  It just doesn't print anything and on the screen the whole layer turns white as soon as I click on it with the gradient tool.  If I pick a different color I see that color fade to white on the screen, but what printers is that color fading to clear.

As @Pratyush says, you must have the 2nd color, in Colors, turned all the way down to zero, and then use the Primary color as white with the gradient.

If you have already created what you desire, but in blue, here is another option.
Goto the Effects tab and scroll down to Color.
If you have the Plugin: BlackAndWhite, v 1.2.3526.15024 by Adam Gaskins installed select it and and you're golden!

Print white? Is your printer able to print with white ink ?

 

On screen do you use background layer, if so make it every color you want execpt white (black, green, pink).

Great point MadJik! Most color printers; inkjet nor laser printers will print white. Some of the fabric and textile printers do print in white but the are very costly!
