Crashes immediately on startup after later Windows update (0x8876017C)

Hi everyone, thanks for all the helpful replies.

Yes, my Windows is up to date on the latest Win10 April 2018 release (version 1803, I believe it is). I was actually on the Windows Insider program for a while, which is when the problem started to occur, but now I'm on a final release, and the issue persists.

I'm in the process of download and updating my drivers, will report back once it's done.

Hi everyone today I'd like to report a bug that prevents Paint.net from starting normally. It's weird because I've been using paint.net for a year without any worries. But this morning I wanted to start it but it showed me this :

Try disabling hardware acceleration.
 

Quote

- Run regedit
- Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Paint.NET
- Change key "UI/EnableHardwareAcceleration" from "true" to "false" (if the key isn't here, just add it as a new "String value")

Hi,

 

I've been using PDN for months with no problems. Suddenly on May, PDN always crashes whenever I start it up. I installed add ons before but I do not know if this has an effect.

@applecruncher1, looks like you've hit a new bug in Windows 10 v1803. I've merged your post into this thread.

 

The fix for now is to disable hardware acceleration, and we've got instructions here: https://forums.getpaint.net/topic/112846-crashes-immediately-on-startup-after-later-windows-update-0x8876017c/?do=findComment&comment=546093
