Interesting sequence of events after installing the new update @Rick Brewster

Keeping Paint.Net up to date helps to keep WIn10 up to date. Installation triggered the completion of an update Microsoft Security Center was reporting being done on the 5th of Jan.

Upon reboot after the installation of Paint.Net 4.20, it triggered the actual installation of Microsoft's latest update.

Probably nothing - Just worthy of note. I found it interesting. When I selected reboot it said nothing about doing an update.

Still not working as it was.  The cursor keys still move the whole line up or down, even if drawing a new line on a new layer.

What exact steps are you performing which causes this to happen? I'll have to keep iterating on this

In order to move the control points on the line, you'll have to hold the mouse button down and then use the arrow keys. You can't just move the mouse cursor over to the control point.

Blend mode for the built in version of clouds seems to me not working. Any simple test will do.B)

The Blend Modes in Clouds seem to work fine for me. What's wrong with it?

(September 25th, 2023)  Sorry about any broken images in my posts. I am aware of the issue.

When applied while the plugin is running no change to the canvas can be seen

Once the clouds are rendered - changing the blend mode of the layer provides the correct blend mode effect

Click on thumbnail for larger pic.

Color of layer does not change when negation is selected while in Clouds.

It does change color by changing layer blend mode after hitting OK in Clouds.

This is what I am seeing.B)

I'm experiencing a bug when coping a layer from one image into another:

I open a primary paint file and create a second, empty layer. I open a secondary file, an image with larger dimensions than the primary.  I copy a layer from the secondary file.  I paste this layer into the empty layer of the primary file.  When the interface asks whether I want to expand the canvas, I select "keep canvas size."

When I attempt to manually resize the newly copied layer, I find that it has already been cut according to the dimensions of the original image file, as if I had already "Finished Selection."

Thanks again for a great product, much appreciated!

Thanks again Rick for the update. Loving the new dark theme. It seems to emphasize the iconography of the UI better.

I dunno if the others have noticed it but it seems to load the images faster here on my low-spec machine and Paint.NET seems to close faster now too.

I'm having some small issues on windows 10. Only the top of the panel outlines is showing. Also, their close buttons seems to unaligned and too close to the right border. Also the "Tools" title text doesn't even fit in the window, and only shows "To...".

image.png.cf0dd7f324f8f9ce777b2c4abe95fade.png

Also, I really think that the dark theme needs many improvements. Mainly, the reduction of the extreme contrast everything has, which is really, really weird. Like the contrast between the fully white window borders and the dark insides. The combo boxes share the exact same problem. Also, all the bright blue parts (like the selected layer, tool or the "Hardness" sliders) only look good on a white or really light background. I would also suggest to make the icons monochromatic. The image below is how it currently looks, and the second one is how I suggest it should look:

Or maybe, we could have a more radical change; for example, a complete overhaul of the interface, or at least all of the icons. Currently, it has the classic windows 7 style; something that is long outdated. Maybe we could have a more modern UI scheme, like the current Metro style, used by Windows 10 and most of Microsoft's products.

I love Paint.NET, and I'm glad that we still get updates. It's good to see that it's not an abandoned project! Although, I do think that it may be time for some bigger changes to it. Let's modernize PDN! More tools! More effects! More features! :D

You need to customize the title bar color:

One thing to note about the Dark Theme on Windows 10 is that you also have to configure the title bar "accent colors" to get the full effect. Otherwise the title bar will still be a blindingly bright white.

1) Enable Dark Theme in the Windows 10 "Colors" Settings

2) Enable "Show accent color on the following surface" -> "Title bars"

3) Under "Windows colors", choose a dark grey color. I personally like "Gray dark".
