Recommended Posts

This effect is based on the Average Edge Blur plugin by Cookies. You can find it in Effects -> Blurs -> Edge Blur RGB.

EdgeBlur.zip deleted>  See Averaged Color Blur

Average Edge Blur effect allows to blur red, or green, or blue channel together with alpha channel or without it.

Edge Blur RGB effect has three additional mode for blur the channels.

I would like to know as far as this effect can be interesting and useful?

You've made the UI easy to understand. Very intuitive. I like that.

I think this is a useful update of AvgEB. In my simplistic test, the differences between the two are imperceptible.

Calling it Edge Blur RGB is a little confusing. It's really Edge Blur RGBA, in which case can't you simply call it Edge Blur?

I'm not sure I agree with placing it in Effects > Noise. It took me some time to find it (thanks Plugin Browser ;) ). Why not Effects > Blurs?

This was a random bug using templates. Fixed.

Perhaps Edge Blur is the best variant.

Thanks for reply.

How is this different than my Channel Blur?

Probably you mean your Gaussian Blur+ effect. The difference between these two effects consists in the used algorithms.

Visually, the difference between effects work can be seen in the images below.

BTW, the interface of your effect has prompted me some ideas to improvement of my effect.

Thanks for reply.

Fixed alpha-channel error for the new blending modes.

New blending mode was added (it was very difficult to find the correct formula for this mode so that it exactly matches Photoshop's Vivid Light mode):

Unfortunately, paint.net was crashed with previous algorithm of Vivid Light when used alpha-channel.

I replaced it with another algorithm, which does not lead to a crash.

Two new blending modes was added (Linear Burn and Linear Light):

Fixed: this mode now works right!

Added 10 new blend modes, which aren't in paint.net.

I wonder why they are not integrated to the "layers".

If my memory serves me correctly, Rick once explained that adding new blend modes would break the .pdn file structure.  He would prefer never to do that.

Actually, newer versions of Paint.NET, since 4.0, will handle an "unknown" blend mode just fine and revert the layer to Normal. I'm not sure how 3.5.x would handle it, but oh well. Can't always maintain forward compatibility.

Thank you @ReMake for adding the extra blending modes!  <3  :)

Would love to see these integrated into PDN but, after reading the above posts, I guess that's not going to happen...:(

Once support period for windows 7 (i.e. 2020) is completed will we have some chance for new new blend mode in PDN. Since all of the person will have  option to upgrade to v4.0.
