@Woodsy rediscovered this excellent tutorial while archiving tuts to PDF. I was so taken with the effect I wrote a plugin to make it easier to create a very similar effect.

 

I know this is similar to Ed Harvey's Weave, but that seems to be non-functional in PDN 4.0+

After installing, you'll find it in the Effects >Texture

Run it twice with different sizes for some interesting overlays...

@Ego Eram Reputo   options request : 

1 . Make the spacing transparent

2. Make horizontal strips transparent

3. Make the vertical strips transparent

These will make it easy change the spacing background and weave two different images.

Is it possible to change the low limit of the Strip width (first slider) to 1 or 2? (Wire fence?)

@welshblue Realllllllyyyyyyy nice texture you've put on the background(s). I know I wrote (most of) Planetoid, but I don't know how you constantly create these awesome textures. That wood grain is fabulous!

1. Spacing opacity is one of the UI options. Did you mean allowing a value of zero?

2. & 3. I don't think I can make that work. Better to render the texture to a blank layer and customize the background.

I'll see how badly a thin strip messes with the shadowing.

Gaaah! I knew someone would ask for an angle control. One of my beta testers suggested it too. I suppose I'll have to look into it now

I'm working on rotating the texture (as promised long ago).

Known issues:

1. The antialiasing at some angles is truly awful
2. If your image is more than 10x the strip width you'll run off the edge of the texture (can we say "bug"??)

Having :

-strip width to 20

-Spacing to 0

-Rotation to 30-60 (must be non-zero)

and Shadows Thickness sliding from 20 to 1 :

Exception details:
