Greetings,

I love PDN since years and gladly purchased the Windows Store version (yay for automatic updates), but had to go back to classic version because of an ancient UWP issue.

short version : I'm using a mouse and keyboard with programmable buttons, and none of these can be used with UWP.

long version : specific mouse and keyboards (mainly sold for gaming purposes) add shortcut keys and buttons that can be macro'd to shortcuts for specific programs. This is usually done through the mouse/keyboard drivers that monitor the active program/window and bind the keys to their relative shortcuts. For example purposes, here's some docs :

  • Logitech documentation : https://www.logitech.com/assets/51813/3/lgs-guide.pdf page 52, step 6
  • Razer documentation : http://drivers.razersupport.com/master-guides/Razer%20Nostromo%20MasterGuide.pdf page 4, step C-5

Alas, UWP programs don't have any exe files that can be linked to these profiles. The only workaround is to use a permanent profile when using an UWP app. This is an old problem (as shown in a February 2016 article : https://www.howtogeek.com/243012/why-you-shouldnt-buy-rise-of-the-tomb-raider-and-other-pc-games-from-the-windows-store/ : search for "no .exe file" ) that still has no solution and can not be solved by peripheral makers : https://www.reddit.com/r/LogitechG/comments/536snw/logitech_gaming_software_and_uwp_apps_windows_10/

So I'm reinstalling classic PaintDotNet and keeping my UWP license in the hope that Microsoft will work with the peripheral makers to negociate a solution. In the meantime, please do not depreciate the classic PDN :)

Hello, is there a reason why the Windows Store version doesn't install on Windows 10 Enterprise? I'd like to be able to use it on my work computer as well.

It should.

What error message are you getting?

This is a late follow-up, but the Store version does work fine on Win10 Enterprise. However, just like Win10 Home and Pro, you must be using version 1607 or newer. If you're using an older LTSB version you may be on version 15xx.

Oh god! finally a paid version where I think everything would be premium. I always wanted to use this version as they have a much better software and a very little crash issue. I have always used the classic one and faced so many crashes. I think this paid one will make my problems disappear. I have used a lot of software for free as I do not need to pay for them,  but with this I think they are doing something better in the paid version.

@kristinarenee, Unfortunately I can't really help you with billing problems. That's all on Microsoft. You'll need to reach out to them.

Why there should be a billing problem?. I mean isnt it an advanced billing method?. If there is a billing problem then why should we waste our dollars?. Now I am being afraid to pay via my card. What was the problem he was facing?. Is it something with like that he paid and the app did not unlock?. Please let me know.

This is not true for Paint.NET.  Bugs and crashes get fixed in both the Free and Paid distributions of Paint.NET.

The Microsoft Store would not accept any payment from her. Sounds like a isolated incident, and an issue with her Microsoft account.

That's great but I can't download the trial version. It just doesn't work. No error message... nothing happens. I like to try it before I buy but I won't buy until I give it a test drive.

Anybody know what's wrong?

That's something you'll have to ask Microsoft about.

You can still get it for free here:

Good day! I fully encourage the transition to the Windows store. It is really convenient. But within place with this, I have identified a number of problems for myself. As the main image viewer, I use Fastone image viewer (Win32). It provides for the use of any application as an image editor using a hot key. And I used the Win32 version of Paint.net for that. Unfortunately, when using the version from the MS Store, this scenario does not work. Through manipulation of rights, I managed to access the application folder to specify a link to the paint.net executable file (this is already a problem). But even after gaining access, I can’t pass image the link to the editor in the form of the full file name since, probably, the launch with the command line parameters is not supported in the the Ms store version. I would like that due to the transition to Ms store this functionality would not be affected.

One more wish, could you add the option “make default image editor” in the context menu of the windows explorer?
