Rick Brewster Posted September 30, 2017 Posted September 30, 2017 This update has two main changes: a big improvement for startup performance, and availability on the Windows Store. The “Classic” release is still available, of course, and will continue to be updated and maintained on roughly the same schedule as the Store release. I will be publishing another blog post discussing the Store release very soon (edit: I posted it to the blog and also to the forum here: https://forums.getpaint.net/topic/111807-paintnet-is-now-available-on-the-windows-store/). As usual, you can download the update directly from the website, or you can use the built-in updater via Settings –> Updates –> Check Now. You can also purchase it from the Windows Store, in which case updates will become completely automatic and you’ll never have to worry about it ever again Here’s the official changelog: Improved: Startup performance has been improved by about 25% New: Now available on the Windows Store! https://www.microsoft.com/store/apps/9NBHCS1LX4R0 Improved: Plugins can now be installed per-user into "Documents\paint.net App Files" into folders named Effects, FileTypes, and Shapes. This is required for using plugins with the Store release. To disable this (e.g. for administrators), set the "Plugins/AllowLoadingPluginsFromUserLocations" key to "false" (HKLM\Software\paint.net). Improved: When using Portable Mode, custom palette files are stored next to the EXE instead of in Documents Fixed: There was a crash on some systems that may have prevented the app from starting up (MissingMethodException for "System.GC.Collect") Enjoy! 6 The Paint.NET Blog: https://blog.getpaint.net/ Donations are always appreciated! https://www.getpaint.net/donate.html
Rick Brewster Posted September 30, 2017 Author Posted September 30, 2017 Please note that it may be an hour or so for the update to show up when you click "Check Now" in the Settings dialog. (The files are still uploading and it takes awhile.) Additionally, it may take another ~24 hours before you can search for Paint.NET in the Windows Store. The direct link, in the post above, should still work just fine. The Paint.NET Blog: https://blog.getpaint.net/ Donations are always appreciated! https://www.getpaint.net/donate.html
IRON67 Posted September 30, 2017 Posted September 30, 2017 (edited) Definitely faster, very nice. Thanks for that. I have two minor points: 1. In the german translation in the Settings dialog -> User Interfaces it should be Fluid Mauseingaben Sie müssen diese Funktion nur deaktivieren, wenn... instead of actual Fluid Mauseingaben Sie müssen nur diese Funktion deaktivieren, wenn... 2. It would be very nice, if you have the time to change the german pangram Armer schwarzer Kater into a better version - maybe Zwei Boxkämpfer jagen Eva quer durch Sylt. I have to patch the ressource every time when I install a new version to have this: Edited September 30, 2017 by IRON67
Rick Brewster Posted September 30, 2017 Author Posted September 30, 2017 IRON67, if you create an account at Crowdin.net then you can help with the translation stuff directly. Just message me your account name there and I'll make sure you get added to the Paint.NET translation project. It's so much easier to manage translation changes in one central location, and it would help a lot The Paint.NET Blog: https://blog.getpaint.net/ Donations are always appreciated! https://www.getpaint.net/donate.html

Thanks, but I am here more and more rarely active and for months I've already reduced my Internet activities. Because of a few translation deficiencies, I do not create a new account on another platform.

Check the plugin tooltips in paint.net; they tell you the file location. My Gallery | My Plugin Pack Layman's Guide to CodeLab

If you are using the classic install (NOT the store version), go into your "My Documents" folder and delete the folder "paint.net App Files". See if that fixes the problem. null54 Posted October 1, 2017 Posted October 1, 2017 It may be a caching issue on my end, but the download link for the classic version on the Paint.NET homepage still says 4.0.17. Plugin Pack | PSFilterPdn | Content Aware Fill | G'MIC | Paint Shop Pro Filetype | RAW Filetype | WebP Filetype The small increase in performance you get coding in C++ over C# is hardly enough to offset the headache of coding in the C++ language. ~BoltBait
IRON67 Posted October 1, 2017 Posted October 1, 2017 Update: After experimenting with filetype association for png- and jpg-files to another program and backwards now SOME files again show correct thumbnails in the Windows-Explorer, some not. I can't see any system in that - it's weird.

Rick Brewster Posted October 1, 2017 Author Posted October 1, 2017 IRON67, I have updated those two strings in the German translation. However, in the future, I need suggestions and fixes to go through Crowdin. Otherwise it creates a lot of additional work for me. It's also not easy to verify that I got the correct text in there.
