Is that a promotional price for past users of Photobucket?

You know what? It probably is because I got this via email. Here's the link:

Well it looks as if PB has realized that there are:

1)  other sites out there that will work just fine.

2) not every body they have driven off with their high handed greedy business model is all that interested in them.

3) if they can salvage  10% of the ones  that left that will net them a tidy sum, likely goes toward off setting the current losses in revenue.

4) I still don't like them anymore and am slowly with drawing all my pictures ( the process is laborious but I have the will to see it through-I think)

When the prefect paint.net image is created, I will still be wondering "How they Do that?"- sigh☺️

Here's another workaround:

If you add ~original to the end of the url, it will display correctly:

I'm kind of confused. Is that an actual fix? I tried it with one on my SOTW entries, and it worked, but somehow I'm nervous about it. If it's an actual fix, and not something Photobucket will shut down once they realize it's there, I'll update all my past image links. I don't know if it's some hidden loophole, or something Photobucket purposely added to calm down anti-Photobucket feelings. Both seem unlikely, but I can't think of a third alternative. Does anyone know what's going on?

Nearly two years before Goonfella started this topic and everyone commented their agreement that PB does indeed suck, I wrote:

Photobuckets' price just went down:

The price page on their site doesn't show that for me; still $400 for 3rd-party hosting.

Photosuckit prices went down again.  They're now charging a more reasonable $48/yr for 3rd-party hosting.

I'm guessing no one paid the $400... :D

Took them long enough to wise up, but I'll never go back...

Photobucket still SUCKS!

Last I heard, they discontinued their "extortion" (i.e. blocking images), but it now appears they're are starting to break (return 404) images that have ~original at the end of the URL.

That was a workaround to bypass the extortion blocking. Granted, that workaround is no longer needed, but now a ton of tutorials are going to break all over again, and will need manual fixing... again. :(

I'm going to watch the situation over the next few days. Thanks to @Woodsy for reporting the initial broken image. Since he reported it yesterday, several other images in the same tutorial have become broken too.

I have my images stored at my web host which is GoDaddy.com

It cost me $0.25 per week for my domain name and $2 per week for 100 GB  for file storage up to 250k files
That comes to $9 per month, the price of a lunch at Burger King or seat at the movies.

Yes, I noticed this about PB the other day when trying to repair an image in a tutorial.  At the time I assumed it was just PB playing up.  I guess they will know the work-a-rounds by now.
