Hello! I will show you how to make an awesome sand texture, without any plugins.

1. Go to Effects > Render > Clouds

2. Using this effect, be sure Roughness is bigger than 0.80 and Scale is under 12. Blend Mode should be set as "Normal"

Example:

*this is an example, sand is not black...*

You should make this with sand color... or something like this: 142e0382ad674d10aa89f3407742243d.png

3. Go to Effects > Distort > Frosted Glass and be sure the "Maximum Scatter Radius" is bigger than 20. You should keep the "Smoothness" at 1.

4. Go to Adjustments > Brightness / Contrast (or Ctrl + Shift + T) and adjust the contrast or brightness until it looks like sand.

Then you can add edges, dunes, etc... and you are DONE!

There are more similar methods, but this is the easiest way.

Things created with this method:

I'm sorry about rule -7a... it is easy but **essential**!

Yes, this is a good use of the Frosted Glass effect. It creates a grain effect (other than the Noise>>Grain plugin) or even what I call a "dissolving" effect which I have repeatedly exploited myself.

I am in the opinion that the Frosted Glass effect is underrated or often overlooked.
