Cannot apply Resize image and Canvas size

Recommended Posts

Paint.Net 4.0.9, procedure to reproduce the bug:

1. Click on 'Image' -> 'Resize...' (or 'Canvas size...')

2. Check radio 'By percentage'

3. Clear value 'percentage'

4. Check radio 'By absolute size'.

If values Width and Height has setting, but the button 'OK' is disabled still. It is not logical.

It appears that once you choose the percent option you have committed yourself so you would have to cancel and open it again to use the other, or just put it back to 100% and then use the by aspect ratio.

First, the interface is an "either or" situation.  You select one method or the other.  Since you're not changing the size by percentage, then you are specifying the size you want it to be.

The "OK" button is greyed out because you did not modify any of the original dimensions to specify what you want it to be now.  It logically cannot say OK I'll change your image to this size if you never indicated what size to change it to.  The 800/600 values are the existing dimensions of the image. It is Paint.net's starting point.  It says, OK, here is what we have: 800 x 600.  How do you want to resize it (because resizing can be reducing or enlarging it) and it doesn't know your intentions until you tell it.

Also, be aware that this action applies to all layers on the canvas.  You are not resizing a layer, you are resizing everything (everything that will inherently make up the complete image).  If you desire to resize a layer independently/separately, then you must do so manually.

That's it, that radio work in the way "or". Components of the values of the another radio should not affect the press the OK button when you select current radio. But this is not so. Because the developers forgot to assign a handler to check the values when you click each radio. Here there is a bug in the application.

Is it possible to report it to developers?

The developer will read this.

I'm inclined to agree with Jim. "OK" is disabled because there is no valid resize operation available. That seems sensible and logical.

This is broken.

It makes sense that if the radio button is switched to absolute size the percentage box should be ignored (even if it is empty).  In this case, the OK button is disabled even if you later change the width or height values which would make your selected options valid.

I'm sure Rick will fix this in a future release.

Thanks for clearing that up. I wasn't able to check. Tablets

Selecting the radio is the act of  resize setting. If the values is correct when you select the radio, the user is not obliged to correct them, to become available OK button.
