Hi,

I am trying to come-up with efforts required to build a stripped down version of Paint.NET , can any one who has attmpted to develop similar apps, can you share your effort estimates(analysis/coding/testing)?

If Paint.NEt team can give their inputs it would be of great help.

Here is what we need

Image editing(crop, resize etc just the basic ones)

Text/Font editing

Company Logo editing

Clipboard for image

Pages arrangement

Page scrolling

Thumbnail sizing control

Drag and drop

Duplicate Image search

Print Functionality

PDF Creation (if supported)

We have restrictions on using third party components /open source software.

Any help is rerally appreciated.

Thanks

Dev

I really can't help you here, for several reasons. I don't know what you're trying to do. Your summarized list is not really helpful, as to do a good estimate one would need a much fuller, detailed specification. Nor do I know anything about your dev team (size, experience, etc). Plus, I really just don't have any time to help out here (even for an estimate unfortunately), nor do I offer consulting services for Paint.NET-forked projects. I also don't know your distribution intent -- internal tool, or something that you'll be charging people for? The latter will have significant legal obstacles.

Anyway, I'm not trying to be a jackass, I'm just trying to verbosely state that, well, you're basically on your own. Good luck!

Thanks Rick,

It's good that you are upfront about your offer of "no Help Available".Let's see if someone else is willing to..

To answer what you asked - it would be an internal tool (for my client) -not for distribution though, team is fairly experienced folks (4 programmers)..

I agree that the details are inadequate but this is what i have as if now- requirements will evolve over the time, kind of trying to be pro-active and find any info from those gurus who have gone thru this path and willing to share experiences..

Again I am not asking for help in coding or tech tips or some out of box components - just want to educate myself with other's experiences for similar development efforts..

Thanks - help or no help - replies do help
